Yup, sounds about right, I'm currently being forced to drive a US spec Hyundai Santa Fe (literally the last National car in the airport carpark). It has buttons everywhere, oppsing thousands of them, laid out in the least intuitive way possible.

Also, this is my 3rd day with it and I still can't find out how to adjust the seat recline.

Oh and its oppsing metallic orange, With a beige cloth interior  >:(

Perhaps you can tell I've not bonded with it

(Note to dbug, that was not aimed at your XJ, tunnie wants the older "old man" model ;D)

Thanx Jaime - but before I bought this one I had a 3.0 Lit V6 SE X350, and have to say it would see off an Omega all day long - more powerful engine in an all aluminium (lighter) car.   ;)  Now this one, well thats something else.

The X538's are coming down nicely now in price, mostly I think to the newer shape being around for a couple of years now.

I'll probably end up having to by a Zafira first, before I can get something for myself  ::)  ;D

For me, the new shape XJ (like most modern cars) is a hideous looking thing. Almost as ugly as recent BMW,s.
The older original shape XJ though, has a timeless style (as opposed to fashion) which has never really aged, and only required periodic tweeks to keep it up to date over a 40 year period.
Similarily, the E type was and still is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced. The XJS - which was supposed to be its replacement - was fugly the day it was designed and was still fugly the day they put it out of its misery.

The front, the sides, the interior is gorgeous.

And that's before we start on the power train.

I live in hope that its arse will grow on me by the time I can afford one ;D

The more recent earlier models just didn't work for me at all.  And with a few reasonably powerful RWD saloons to choose from, I couldn't imagine having one.

I think the XF is an all round good looking motor as well.

Popped back again today to pick up some cam cover o-rings, for when the lifters are changed.

Overheard another service bill.....

1 x oil filter
5L of semi-synth oil
1 x oil filter gasket
1 x fuel filter

1.5 Hours labour charge for the above.

1 x batetery for key fob

Total: £283  :o

Really puts me off new cars, That would be what on the 3.2 if I did it all myself. £25?   ;D

£8 oil, £4 filter. Not sure what fuel filers are these days on TC.

£150-200 of that would be labour. £60 for the oil....

...so in right ballpark.

You are not comparing like for like are you? You are comparing dealer rates with TC prices and free labour(ie you). Start paying non TC prices for oil etc and the difference will reduce. Then work out what your time costs are and the gap decreases. Then make an attempt to shop around and find a dealership that offers reasonable service packages and the difference then becomes negligible.

My local dealership did a basic oil/filter change with a general check over for £69 all inclusive, which was very reasonable.
