Recommend me a Fitness Watch/Tracker
« on: 03 December 2015, 11:49:39 »

Not for me, but a Christmas present.

Needs to track basics like steps/calories etc. Be good if it was waterproof too, so it could be used in a pool.

Considering FitBit, but that's no good for a pool.  :-\

Apple Watch? Seems to cover all the basics pretty well.. Bit rich for a gift though.

Bit rich as it has a load of features the present receiver would never use, they have an iPhone 3G-S running iOS 4  ::)

Maybe Jawbone UP2, the "MisFit Flash" looked good there, but Amazon reviews are crap

I'm hoping* for a FitBit Surge for Christmas.  (Yes, I know I'm a fat blobber and have no need of a fitness tracker, before anyone says it  :P)

(*as in I'm pretty sure that's what SWMBO is getting me)

Not waterproof but then that wasn't on my list of criteria so .. this is of little help to you.  The comments in the article you linked to have some good looking suggestions for waterproof/watersports trackers, though.

Yeah, the waterproof/swimming one looked good, but gets terrible reviews on the quality of it.

My missus has had her garmin since last Christmas and swears by it, but......

It may be over complicated for your needs as it has gps and can log your route and all kinds of different speeds etc.....and I'm not sure it's waterproof.

I've just changed the tyres on my mountain bike for the first time since I bought it in 1999. I don't need anything to tell me about my fitness. ;D

 :o

Every 6 months my michelins get changed on the training/commuting bike.  Normally due to a mix of wear and holes in the rubber from broken glass releaving too much of the teflon strip underneath.  On the race bike I get at least one flat a season and at £80 a pop plus 3 days to fit it stings a little.  That said they are rated to 200 psi ::)

These tyres are more substantial than the average condom, mind. ;)

.. and they obviously don't degrade much when left in a shed for years at a time. Don't think I actually started riding the bike until a couple of years back. :-[

Don't Kelloggs give away free pedometers with some of there cereals?  Job jobbed.

As for anything else, its a poxy gimmick.  Why does knowing a wild, inaccurate guess on calories matter, unless its to know how many big macs to quaf after 50 lengths of the pool?

Surely we know roughly how fit we are, and its easy to ascertain if the pie arm is too fast for the exercise....?

But are they compromised in the sensitivity department? :)
