Noisy injectors inside car.
« on: 04 December 2015, 09:38:48 »

2.6 V6 2001

I have just had the HBV replaced at the garage, and now the purr of the injectors is noticably lowder inside the
car. Same as before outside so not a problem with the injectors.
Have the garage left out some insulation or left a gap where the pipes go through the bulkhead.
Anybody else had this.

Can't say that I have ever heard Omega injectors :-\ Some cars, the VW 3.6 springs to mind, sound like knackered diesels when they're idling such is the knocking from the injectors :o this is due to much higher fuel pressures than you see with the Omega.

It's possibly summat wasn't quite put back right, but struggling to see what insulation might have been disturbed when changing the hbv... could be that the hbv isn't quite on its bracket allowing it to vibrate :-\

Thanks for the replies

The actual injectors are fine, with a nice purr sound, but not heard them
from inside the car before, which is normaly very quiet.
I haven't had a look yet, but wouldn't think they had not fitted
the HBV properly. Used them for years.

No Zirk straight petrol. I will have a look this weekend.
Thought I would ask as it might save me some time. If I can get in there I will try and get piccy.

Are there boots that fit over the pipes where they go through the bulkhead?
If so maybe one has shifted, allowing the sound to get through. It is that sort
of sound and is coming from down around the heater.

Let you know if I find out.

Have they refitted the scuttle panel properly?

I know things get a lot more rattly without that in place.

Had a quick look this weekend. The boots over the Metal pipes seem to be in place.
Could be the scuttle panel not put back right. Will check this when it's warmer.
This could be a possible, as on closer listerning, the sound appears to be comming
from the bottom of the windcreen under dash area.
Sort have dropped the hole idea this morning as there are no engine smells getting in.

Just have to turn up the radio for now.

Thanks again for suggestions.

Having a check around the engine bay last weekend, decided to check the pollen filter and check to see if the drain was clear, went to open up the flap to get to it, and
thought, something missing here, usually have to lift up the rubber bonnet seal,  Ah no bonnet seal, looks like the garage forgot to put it back when they changed the HBV.
Gave them a call and they found it. Everybody knew it was there, but couldn't remember which car it was off. They brought it over same day and I put it back on.
Peace at last. Now back to a quiet car, and it wasn't me going mad after all. Injector noise must have come in through the heater ducting and out through the vents.
