Morning all,

So, having got into my new work it turns out that the Omega can stay as there aren't any hard and fast rules about how old a car can be.  However this does mean I now need to address the list of jobs I've been meaning to get around to! 

On the shopping list is:
- New timing belt and water pump (only done 30k but nearly 5 years old) 
- Clean breathers and fit new rocker gasket
- Front Discs and pads (discs are original I think so 65k on)

I also have a couple of questions - having read the excellent guide I feel confident I could fit a Stag LPG kit to the car. But I need it certifying for insurance purposes. Most places I've spoken with are unwilling to do this - no doubt as they either don't believe in the competence of amateur installers or (more likely) they're sore about the missed installation fees! So, who do you guys use for certification?

Secondly (although needs to be addressed before lpg) I've had a couple of instances where the car turns over but doesn't fire (perhaps only 10 in total) - usually from a hot start but once or twice from cold always seems to start . Also it cut out on me once when I was slowing for a roundabout but started again immediately. I want to bottom out any issue with the car's ignition/fuelling before going for the LPG conversion. There aren't any codes stored and it only manifests itself occasionally - colour me confused!

On the LPG front -

Firstly, as you rightly say, you need to address the other tasks before adding another unknown to the mix.

Moving on, it might be easier to look for a different insurer. Many now don't care. But with some perseverance you should be able to find someone. Search for LPG forum to ask there too.

As for why they won't inspect and certify.... It is a big responsibility for them to put their name against it. But the one who did mine (in North London) didn't like it that I knew the regulations better than him or that I pointed out that my installation was neater and more professional than his ones

Thanks for the replies chaps. Sorry I've not replied sooner. It seems that my new job is somewhat more demanding than my old one

He didn't have any choice... Between TB, Gixer, Kevin Woods and myself  (we fitted it together, thanks again guys!) we have quite a bit of experience fitting the kits and know COP 11 very well so it was completely within the guidelines. I also happened to have a copy of it with me and every thing he tried to criticise I just pointed him to the relevant section

Yup, I was planning on doing the same. I suspect I'll spend longer researching the COP than doing the actual installation!

Both mine were certified locally (to work) with no issues or recommendations.  So there are some realistic fitters out there.

I'll try and ring round a couple of local people. I'm also up the road from tinley tech so they may be able to suggest someone.

Also, added to the symptoms (as of today) is a lumpy idle, for maybe 30secs after a hot start. The car would Rev, but only after a *cough*. Again, 10mins of running and the problem didn't resurface after restarting. Does this again point to the crank sensor? Or maybe a further issue?

second that - occasional fails to start on first turn followed eventually by failure to start at all. never happened since i replaced the sensor with a genuine delphi one.

i didn't get the lumpy idle symptoms though.
