What now...
« on: 17 December 2015, 16:02:35 »

So the old broom >:( has developed jet another fault. Radio, CID, climate panel and fuel gauge go dead occasionaly. So have to switch ignition off, then re-start the car and it works. Fuse(s) are correct size and ok. Where to look, any ideas?
I had the ignition switch connector\plug changed recently, can it be linked?

Hmmm, sounds odd.  I'd start with a charging check - see Kevin Woods charging guide.

After that, state everything that gets affected, I'll have a gander at diagrams to see if there is something obviously common.

Is it simply a knackered ignition switch?

well, i just installed a new one, but i suspect it might be. It didn't stay in place for some odd reason so used a cabeltie to secure it to place. Probaly need to look at it again then.

I must remember to read the whole post (or stop posting while holding the baby)- I overlooked the last line about recently changing the ignition switch.

What was the reason for changing the old one? It seems odd that the replacement won't stay in place :-\

Have the wires been cut and reconnected? How were they connected? (solder & heat shrink? Crimp connectors? Scotch blocks? )

I was just crossing out the possibility that it's faulty and causing ohter problems as example the ncdc not turning on with ignition and windows not working.
The wiring looks original, as no visible marks of being butchered at some point.

You need to clarify exactly what has been changed ::)

The barrel or the contacts?

I would start with the wiring connections to that then... If a pattern part or carelessly fitted then the electrical points might not be seated correctly...

I've been to loads of Corsas where the ignition lock has worked but the electrical switch hasn't. The part looks very similar.

I had one catch fire in a MKII Cav, it was such a common fault that the dealers kept them in a tray behind the counter.

Very common failure on Astras and Corsas, and an early tell tale that it is failing is the inability to enter a code into the radio

ACC position fails first - doesn`t affect usual starting or running of car, so seldom detected
