A sight to behold.
« on: 07 January 2016, 12:22:30 »

I've just witnessed an  old dear of about ninety reversing her battered 'F reg' Pug 205.

It seems I have much to learn.

Apparently what is required is about 7000 RPM for a 1 MPH reverse on the flat.

The smell of 'cooked clutch' was overwhelming. ;D

Should there  be a law that expressly prohibits girlies of all ages from driving manuals?........

They're even worse in autos; at least a manual will stall once it has hit something. An auto will still be running, which allows the 'driver' to yank it into reverse and continue the crash on the other side of the road/car park/garden

Imagine the 'for sale' ad:

Nissan micro 1.0. 3 years old and only 5000 miles. One lady owner. Bargain.

5000 miles in 1st gear must equate to 50000 with normal driving  ;D

Anyone who has ever looked at such cars will know that they are unlikely to be a bargain even if they are free. Common problems: it needs its third clutch; every panel is shiny, but rippled to hell; the wheels look like they've been sanded by a blind maniac using a 9" sander and 1grit disc; the front suspension is oppsed because it has hit every kerb it has been near; Mavis considered the dog owned the car as much she did, and so every interior surface is covered in the sort of white terrier hair that is impossible to remove; it has never been over 40mph or more than 7.3miles at a time and is so choked up that it might as well have been smoking 100 fags a day; and the seat is jammed in the fully forward, bolt-upright, chin-on-the-steering wheel position.

I witnessed, just before xmas, some old duffer trying to reverse/parallel park some small shitbox in Bletchley's high street. I actually stood and watched him as I honestly thought the engine would expire given it sounded like it had no rev limiter.

After about 15mins, he "successfully" parked it...  ...about 6' from the kerb, and blocking traffic using the road. And then he doddered off on foot.
