It isn't really a prison is it?  :-\ more like Borstal or a home for naughty boys.

It's actually Borstal, where the term comes  from. Borstal being a suburb of Rochester where there are a couple of prisons.
I did wonder where Borstal actually was. There is another prison at Boarstall near Bicester & I wondered if the spelling had morphed over time.

yes borstal is a postal suburb of rochester but the STC was know as HMP borstal prison then in 1902 a experimental juvenille prison was set up and it was called just borstal hence that is where term borstal comes from as it was first of it kind

I'm not saying they should be treated like hotel guests but, if you take the time to read the article in full, the issue isn't use of force. It is use of unnecessary force.

In. Other words, bullying.

Bullying anyone is unacceptable, especially a minor.

Perhaps treated differently some might not reoffend... It's a self-perpetuating machine.

bullying is unacepttable but dont forget we are not dealing with a normal chidren/young people , these guys are out of control and some times physical contact is the only way to deal with them , as for them not reoffending hm  you would like to think so but unlikely, having spent sometime working with some of these guys its a thankless task

So... You agree that bullying is unacceptable. But seem from your postings to defend, even condone the acts of unnecessary force and bullying that the undercover investigation has highlighted :-\

Quote
Among the allegations uncovered by Panorama and now subject to investigation are that Medway staff:
Slapped a teenager several times in the head
Pressed heavily on the necks of young people
Used restraint techniques unnecessarily - and that included squeezing a teenager's windpipe so he had problems breathing
Used foul language to frighten and intimidate - and boasted of mistreating young people, including using a fork to stab one on the leg and making another cry uncontrollably
Tried to conceal their behaviour by ensuring they were beneath CCTV cameras or in areas not covered by them

None of these are acceptable behaviour from a guard. And before you criticise me, I know several prison guards, including 2 who have had the pleasure of working Broadmoor and the lovely inmates there who are more than happy to stab each other with felt tip pens! I can guarantee they would be embarrassed to be counted amongst the same profession as these animals who take pleasure in bullying minors because it makes them feel big!

of course bullying is unacceptable in any situation (and trust me there is one or two on this forum that need to take not of this last statement)

As for unnecessary force we was not there. so whos to say what is necessary or not, but as i said before the use of force is sometime the only way you can gain control LD ask your mates or are wardens about the tornado group force these guys are the group that go in and sort prison riots out. Also we all no films can be edited to make a story. But as part of my job ALL the prison I have been to and still goto (6 at the mo) have blind spots on their CCTV systems again now as it is a blind spot who knows what goes on????

Thing is, these people will be sanctioned/sacked, so discussing here has no bearing.
