I doubt you'll get much help on this forum with regards to illegal viewing/streaming of Movies and TV.

As for the BIOS screen showing on start-up  That is quite normal, but *if* it has been changed by a malicious piece of software, then you may be saying 'ta ta' to your computer very soon.

As said, whilst Torrents are perfectly legal to talk about, the other bit, film rights type software etc, can't be discussed.

Personally, if its not too late, you should try and recover your pc from a previous back up, although if the bios has been messed with, that's probably easier said than done.

From a torrent streaming point of view to your home PC, your always going to be on dodgy ground, starting and including your ISP, maybe theres such a thing as 'torrent to cloud services' out there, so you wouldn't have to mess with the software on your PC, who knows.

If you're not sure - and it sounds like it has been adjusted - bin it.

And let it be a lesson that to be a successful freetard, you need to have a very good understanding of what you are doing, not just follow stupid instructions or downloads off the internet.

The likes of Netflix are cheap enough, and sports are often free with a couple of ISPs...

Its a fairly standard term in the industry for someone who uses/enjoys commercial/copyrighted material/services with no intention of paying for it. I think it was an online IT magazine/news site that originally coined it several years ago, but has now become commonplace. Covers everything from illegal music downloads to SIM cloning.  I think its quite a good, descriptive term myself :)

As to the PC, if the bootblock has become compromised, fairly common a few years ago with BIOS altering malware, yes, bin the PC. Unless you have access to a desoldering station, and can reprogram the flash away from the systemboard.  I'm guessing as its AMI, its old anyway.

Depends on flash chip used. Some need registers set to program bootblock, some just need a bog standard flash programmer (which connects to a computer, usually PC.

No

If its an American Megatrends Inc BIOS, I'm guessing its several years old. Which makes it not worthwhile, as newer PCs are being sent to landfill daily.

No. One a PC of this era, the bootblock loads into memory first and is executed, which will then load the main BIOS into memory and executed, and its settings applied, which itself is responsible for bootstrapping whatever OS it can find in its boot path.

If you can get malware into the bootblock or the main BIOS, you control the PC, and there is nothing the PC owner can do about it.

Newer system have the potential for the OS to check the BIOS is unmolested, and the BIOS has the potential to check that the boot files of the OS are unmolested. But AMI must be at least 10yrs old, probably more.

If running some dodgy software, downloaded with admin rights from a dodgy website, has caused the BIOS actions to change, you have to class it as compromised. And therefore junk (as not financially viable to fix).
