Rear Differential
« on: 24 January 2016, 22:10:25 »

is it necessary or advisable to have the rear end serviced?

my 01 catera has 112k miles and rear has never been touched.

Is it noisy? Do any of the seals leak?

No? Then top it up with hypoid and stop worrying.

Easy!

The answers you seek are in the Maintenance Section  ;)

Done by unscrewing the fill plug(towards the rear of the diff, about half way up on the right hand side). The level is correct if the oil is just below the fill hole(just like any other diff/gearbox in the last 185529579 years). You top it up by adding oil. This why the smaller bottles of hypoid are squeezy with a long spout.
