v6 cam locking kits?
« on: 18 February 2016, 19:18:55 »

Hi guy's has anyone had experience with these http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Petrol-Engine-Setting-Locking-Kit-Saab-Vauxhall-Opel-V6-Belt-Drive-/161850510448?nav=SEARCH. I'm looking for a kit at the minute and I don't want to waste money buying one that's no good.

Looks cheap construction mostly plastic. Got mine second hand off ebay and it was genuine Laser at £25. Look around they are out there and are far more reliable  :y

Lots of issues with Laser kits a while back - well known on here!!
Better off with a Sealey - they are more reliable  ;)

Over the years I've bought a couple of SP ones (my preferred one), and never paid more than £50 delivered for one brand new.

Might have been a bit optimistic with my price then :-[

Your price is about the going rate, as it is considerably less than new, especially if the buyer needs to use it rather than have it waiting.

Buying the adjuster spanner separately is so expensive I made one from an old socket.

I suspect you'll get that for it :), so not optimistic at all.

Used mine several times now and no problems encountered, cam locking guides are metal and not plastic so should be longer lasting.

Either there were a bad batch of Lasers, or more likely, there were a lot of fakes being sold by the likes of egay and well know national car factors well known for selling fake gear.

Which means, unless you have another (non laser) kit to test it again, you can't trust it :(

Mine is a Bluepoint (Snap-On) kit, is mostly metal except for the wedge for the bottom pulley :)

Got it off Ebay for IIRC £40 + postage. The seller didnt know what they had :y to my advantage :)

You may be one of the lucky ones.
Never seen any plastic cam lockers - all metal and painted different colours to distinguish left bank from right bank - the ones in the original ebay link look to be painted metal nor plastic ;)
As minifreek says crank locking wedge usually only plastic part.

For those buying SP kits, its all metal. Apart from the case it all comes in.

Found the same kit on ebay for £38 so asked the question and both red and green pieces are made from metal so I think I'll give it a rattle at that price. Won't need it for another week or 2 anyway but if nothing better turns up at reasonable money I'll give that one a go
