 Noticed a Rumbling from N.S.F. Pretty sure the Wheel Bearing on its way out. ?. Where's the best place to spend my hard earned chaps. Will be looking for 2. Seems false economy replacing 1 :y

This is one of those cases where not disturbing the one that is working is the better approach!

Seconded. Especially as all but genuine Vx have had mixed success IIRC :-\

The purists here will criticise me for this suggestion, but the easiest and cheapest way to repair your car is to buy a second hand hub off e-bay. This will come with bearings and ABS sensor for about £20. I fitted one 8 years ago to my 3.2 and its still giving good service.

To which I would reply "no". I have run fleets of Senators and Omegas since 1996, currently run six Omegas, all high mileage, and have never suffered a front wheel bearing failure.
 Checking e-bay, I see you can buy a complete used hub, bearings and ABS sensor for £14.99 delivered, or a new hub and bearings for £30. Isn't it great running common cars! I doubt you would get that for an Aston Martin.

I had one fail an MoT... replaced with a pattern new one and re presented it only for it to almost be failed again on the same bearing... only when the wheel and disc were removed and the torque rechecked did the tester conceed that it had indeed been replaced with a new and correctly fitted bearing, and duly passed it... just goes to show :-\

I had one fail ...... replaced with OE bearing/hub & had no further problem. As above, pattern seem to have had early failures

I replace both my front hubs shortly after I got my Omega at 116k, both were whining like Aussies losing at cricket.
I used patern parts and have been fine and has now done 148k.

It's quicker and less work to do a front bearing than it is to change to a secondhand hub carrier. And you don't upset the suspension alignment.


Rear bearings are cheap and easily doable in a couple of hours. In the street. Although it does suffer the Omega effect by being much more complicated than is necessary.


I have never seen the appeal of using secondhand parts for cheap service/wear items, let alone recommending their use.
