Anyway - Tunnie, next time if you break down around that kind of area give me a call (unless it's 1am, then you're on your own  :P). I doubt the Ranger would have complained much about having an Omega on a rope behind it :)

Thanks  :y :y :y

Considering we are so close, we should really actually properly meet other than you seeing me go past on the GS.

I do keep a look out for any Rangers on the M3  ;D

Curry? He said... :P
There's also a very good Chinese in Tongham/Seale, just outside Farnham at the bottom of the Blackwater valley road :y

Sounds good to me. :y

Hummmm. Chinese. I have just zero spare time these days, I'm doing car DIY work at 9:30 PM     :( ;D

Will check opening times etc, but early ish on Easter Monday should give a bit of notice...

Think it's my last weekend off until the back end of April although midweek could work given you all live fifteen minutes away ::)

Thats good news ...must be something simple then... :y :y
Water pump.

Tunnie already knows this but he has a new toy to play with so he'll be boiling the engine a few more times before he eventually gives in and pulls the pump out for inspection  ;)

Well..... my trusty steed rides again!  :D :D :D :D :D

Put spark plugs and coil pack back in today, after compression testing it last night. I found old GM stats in garage, one from 2006 and one from last month. Popped them in boiling water and looked for the stat opening, found it hard to tell. But old GM one had some movement, newer GM one moved a lot. As this always opened when fitted to car at around 75c, so next I took one off the car and tested it. Nothing, no movement.

Put on GM one on fitted in 2006 but went lazy, car not heats up normally and runs fine. Took her on a blast up the dual carriage way, all is good.

Will see how this stat behaves I guess  :-\

I think TBs rusty bullet is far ahead in miles, 1998 plate and 250k?

My 2.2 is 2000 plate and only 188k in comparison, but 188k is fair amount for a 4 pot.

But we both have other Omegas (both have late 3.2's) - We also both know deep down the other cars are younger and in better condition, but we keep the old battered examples going.

But they are very cheap to run, practical motoring and my 2.2 has been a trusty work horse.

I'm keen to get the old girl to 200k  :)

The Bullet is about 228k, probably need to add a couple of k to that for when the ABS unit failed at a time I was al over the country building poxy servers for blocking access to a teenager's (wet) dream selection of websites. A 1998MY, built and registered in 1997.

Not a whippersnapper like tunnie's trusty heap. But as cheap to run/tax/insure/service (by some margin, its the cheapest to insure in my fleet), comfortable, reliable-if-you-have-a-spare-crank-sensor, reasonable quick, reasonably capable round corners, and a whole heap of fun.

Well so far it's been ok, stat has been little lazy around 80/85, but mostly stays nearer to 85.

Question is, what stat do I buy next?

GM Source, in a GM box from a dealer = Opened way too soon. Stat was opening at around 75c sending temp crashing down to almost end stop. Could not get temp to rise above 80 no matter what. Also confirmed this by popping it in tub of boiling water, it could move quickly despite kettle water only ~90 :-\

Cheapo sourced, from EuroCarParts = Normal workings, popped this stat in, the car straight away behaved normally, would climb to 85c, drop as stat opened, then return to 85c and stay there. That is until about 6 weeks later when it jammed shut and nearly killed the engine.  :(

Are they not available for different temperatures?

Could try an AC Delco one from the states... might come from a different supplier :-\
