« on: 11 March 2016, 12:55:48 »

Having some gas & plumbing work done today, had to turn the gas supply off, the switch is located in the garage, so had to move the Merc out , the plumber was amazed at the condition of the old E class spent ages chatting turned out his father was a Merc mechanic & loved the E class , the old fellow is coming round tomorrow to give it the once over should be interesting.

Always a nice feeling when a stranger genuinely appreciates something you own.If the old boy does come round you could always make his day and offer to take him for a quick spin in it.

If the plumber is on an hourly rate, I'll bet he's not the slightest bit interested in mercs.

Already spoken with him , seems very knowledgeable apparently a lot of the E classes that were affected by serious rust issues were assembled in South Africa , as mine is rust free he assumes it is a German assembled car, on checking the VIN code via the MB club he is absolutely correct.

Well met the old chap , been very interesting chatting with him almost 80 but very active & fit ,turned up in his own immaculate E320 , spent around 45 minutes looking round mine  & confirmed that it is a "good un" .The E 430s are bomb proof according to him, fully synthetic Mobil 1 is all he ever uses in his ,& I have just bought 10 litres for mine as a change is due soon .

Makes you feel you've done well with your purchase, Mr Tilbo. :y

I've always had a hankering for a Merc from the 'cold war' period. A presentable 300 SEL 6.3 would fit the bill. :y

Yes, Opti I do like some of the Older Mercs especially the twin stacked headlight models from the sixties, but I could not justify spending £30,000 + for a weekend toy, yes I  pleased with mine & still think that I got an absolute bargain.

That would require your own cold-war style covert source of 'black' funds these days.

If I was to change the Merc I quite fancy the 5.0 Mustang for around 30k, hired one in the States in 2010 & loved it
