2.6 Advice
« on: 12 March 2016, 14:16:53 »

Ok I'm replacing the heater bypass valve on my 2.6 2001. I e removed scuttle and plenum and just fastening last spring clip on hose when I leant on the plenum and I heard a crack.

I had forgot to remove multi plug from the connector at the back right hand side of plenum. Question A what is this and question B will it run without it while I source a new one. Connector is fine, the part has broke in two separating the Diode and wires inside. Feel an idiot for not removing it and thought things were going well.

I've searched all my parts and think I left my only spare on the plenum I binned.

You say back right hand side  - is that driver's side or passenger side? You say multiconnector - how many wires? You mention a diode - what does that mean?
If it's the plenum multiram, as Rob suggests, it will run all right, but be flat at low revs.

Here';s the back of a short plenum, showing the multiram. It's very easy to break the connector off the vacuum valve and leave it hanging on its wires. There are other similar valves on the engine.

The OP implies that the broken part is attached to the plenum, hence why I thought he meant the rear multi-ram.  :-\

I've broken off one or to over the years. I've mended them too. The bonding comes unbonded between plug end and body, leaving the wires intact. I managed to drill holes at the corners and put 8BA screws through to hold it together.

Yes that's the part. Bolted to the plenum on the corner with two small hoses to it, however this has snapped and ripped out the two copper wires so I think a new/replacement one is needed.

I will post in wanted. It starts ok and ticks over but not taken it for a drive yet, will teach me to be more careful in future

The valve is open at idle, closes on throttle opening up to 3400rpm, when it opens again. If it never closes the engine will still run OK, but give less power than it should at low revs. I bought a 2.5 which was sluggish until it really got revving, and it took me some months to realise the fault was a sticky plenum ram valve. There are several identical vacuum valves on Omega engines, you may have one in your spares heap.
