Just checking over TBE earlier ready for a trip to mums, I notice one of the Goodyear Eagle F1's has brown marks around sidewall. Had this on 2 others a year or 2 back (which GY Dunlop did admit liability as something that shouldn't happen)

So of the 6 GY F1's I've had on Omegas, 4 have suffered failures.

Had no issues with mine given that TB potentially over drives them, I wouldn't discount them out right...

I haven't driven it much, certainly not more than a couple weeks of miles out of town, so think that's another theory we can discount now, at last

I'll get you to clarify what you mean when I see you next, is the sidewall compound breaking down? 
I'm happy enough with the GY F1 Assym 2 performance grip wise, wet or dry, but I'm on my second set now and the cracks in the tread grooves are appearing again so I'm not overly happy about that.

What was the actual failure mode, sidewall failure?

No problems for me although I did pick up a puncture a couple of weeks ago.

TB is hardly your average user.

I'm going to try some Conti sports on the Elite when the wheels come back from the refurb.

Similar no real issues here.

Last full set covered 18k before backs got a tad low so they were replaced in February.Still have last set on front at 22k now and still 4mm of tread left.

Did notice the backs when changed had signs of cracking inbetween tread pattern and they were date stamped 01/15 so not due to age

That is excellent.

The rears on my MV6 were 'Donald Ducked' after 11000 miles.

So much of it is motorway miles ,think the rears wear more due to take up from stationery

This is currently like a simple discolouration of the sidewall near the tread.  The previous set that they admitted a defect started the same way, but then went into a cracking of the sidewall in that discoloured area.


The other failure I had on a F1 was a huge blister/hole appeared, down to the cords. I didn't send that one back, as only had about 3mm left on it, so was fully spent anyway.

I found Contisport SC5 unsuitable for the Omega - immediately they went on, hopeless levels of grip, immediately noticeable even when going carefully (as I always do on new tyres until the release compound is worn through). I hoped it was just the release compound, but it never improved, and the fronts were utterly spent by 3k. I think the rears lasted to 5k IIRC.

Wheels went in today for refurb and I get them back next Monday as I'm working from Friday over the weekend. Just been on the Blackcircles web page and they are doing F1 Assy 2 for £91.21 each, if they last more than 10K like the Falkens I had fitted for MoT last year I may put 4 of them on.

Plod had fitted Michelin Primacy HP's when I got the Elite off of Josh, which lasted 3 years and 20-25k miles. They are £98.12 each and the Pilot sport4 are £98.13 each. I had no issues with them the way I drive. I have to make my mind up this week so I can have them fitted next Tuesday

I currently have Pilot Sport 4's on the back of both mine. Too early in their life to properly comment, but so far I'm happy with them - happier than I've been at the same stage with GY F1 A2, Conti SC5 and the current crop of RTs.

Paid £90 each fitted for the 17's and £142 each fitted for the 245/40/18s (before the £36 per tyre discount due to the GY failures). In Jan.

Gixer tried my 245/40/18 PS4s on the front of his, seemed happy enough with them, but possibly a notch below the Pilot Super Sports he currently uses on cornering grip.
