Antivirus XP 2008 (Virus)
« on: 20 July 2008, 12:46:45 »

Anyone come accross this?, Its a virus that hijacks explorer, disables your task manager and some really anoying pop ups, to clean your computer for £99, blah, blah...

Think I got mine from a toolbar or Google update manager.

Its starting to really p*ss me off now, been over a week, I tried all the usual Anti and spyware progs without suscess.

Thx richierich,

My AVG was ver 7.5.524, I thought that was the last of the versions that were free.

I also use AVG Anti Root Kit Free (1.1.0.42) and AVG Anti Spyware Free (7.5.1.43) among other ones.

But none of them helped.

Currently doing the James link as we speak!

Cheers. :y

Be carefull with 3, they charge you £1 per Mb if you go over your limit without warning.

If you want to try it out first without buying the dongle, just buy a normal 3 Sim (£10 sim with £10 credit from any proper 3 shop) and configure the datacard APN as 3 Data, and buy a months worth of browsing for £5. It does work on there Turbo Network (Dont tell the 3 man in the shop though thats what your going to do!).

The only other PAYG one is T-mobile, normal sim (£5 sim with £5 Credit, T-mobile Shop). you get 10 days free browsing, then pay £2.5 for each additional 6 days browsing, all unlimited. your get 3g speeds not sure about thier HSDPA (broadband) speeds though. :y

Hurray!!, Well that worked, cleaned all the bits that no other cleaner could sniff out. Completely gone.

Recommend this one:

http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.htm

Found over 100 issues that AVG, Mefee, Windows One Care, PC Tools etc, never found.

Well done James, nice one  :y

For freebie AntiVirus try Avast - has had better ratings than AVG in Computer Press.
