Off to test drive an M135i on Saturday
« on: 15 April 2016, 12:05:49 »

Following the decision to take a significant change in life direction for both SWMBO and I over the next few years, once the renovation on the house is complete I've decided to buy a brand new car - a first for me, although SWMBO had one earlier in the year so I suppose that sort-of counts.  ;D

To that end I'm off for a spin in an M135i tomorrow morning to see what they're like. A friend of mine has a 235i and I really liked that from a passenger's perspective but we will still need 4 doors. Anyone on here had any experience with these? or the engine in other applications come to that who can offer any advice/comment?

Cheers  :y

Is the engine the same as that fitted to a the 335i?.......by which I mean a a 3 litre straight six twin turbo.

The problem I have with the BMW 1 series is that it is excessively ugly. It's design simply does not 'flow' and as a result looks like many people have had a hand in it,  none of which have seen the work of the others. :-\

Single turbo on this, I think.

The expression......'a camel is a horse designed by a committee' springs to mind.

It will put a smile on your face, Jimmy, I guarantee that.
Hope you haven't got dodgy hips, pedals are at an angle, apparently.

Mid life crisis, Jimmy?  ;D

I certainly hope not, I'm 32 and definitely planning on living past the age of 64!  ;D. Its more that since I graduated 7 yrs ago, my wife and I have both held down demanding jobs, chased promotions, renovated two houses and basically not stopped running!

We're planning on starting a family in the next year or so and our original plan was to re-mortgage where we live now and renovate another house for sale. However, we decided that missing the first years of a child's life because I'm out at all hours or lying under a car is too higher price to pay. So, for a couple of years at least, we won't maintain our own cars, renovate houses or try to "get on" in life. We'll just enjoy being a family.

Indeed, good for 325bhp or so. Dr, I agree they're no lookers, but I think the facelift has improved them somewhat, particularly at the front. Also, they tread the line very nicely for me between having (more than) enough real world performance while not being as hardcore to drive as a full fat M-Car - which I could only afford new with a very unhappy wife and some terrible man-maths.

I also like the fact they look more or less no different to an estate agent's 116d M-sport and so won't attract the kind of attention a proper M-car would. This is basically what I think mine will end up looking like.

Oh and as I'll be on the inside of it, its only everyone else who has to suffer it!

Edit to add: Not the same engine as the previous 335i as that was N54, this is N55 - the difference, probably Sweet Fanny Adams ;D

Not only is it ugly, but it is a fine example of the German sense of humour: who else could get that sort of money for a two-seater with 4 doors?

Other than VW (golf r), Merc (AMG 45), ford (Focus RS), Audi (s3), I can't think of anyone. :P

Keep the Omega and put all the money you would spend on the 135i into the bank. You will need it!

The Pram and other car seats I've bought so far, cost more than the purchase of my 3.2 Elite  ;D ;D

Couldn't you have bought a 12 year old Pram and done the maintenance yourself? New tyres and a drop of oil and it would have probably done another 20000 miles. :)

I'd have to thank OOF for that, there's certainly plenty of "experience" wandering around these boards :P. Although given my car history includes 2 Saabs, 1 Omega and.... A Rover 45 Diesel  :-[, its probably time I plumped for something a little more "Youthful".

Tunnie: I'm fully aware that this is the last thing I'm likely to be able to buy for myself in the next 2 decades or so, hence I'm making the most of it!

Get a vxr8 for the same price, with change buy a baby seat and pram, big smiles allround. V8 Babycarrier loads better than a boring bmv.
