How fast?
« on: 16 April 2016, 19:37:35 »

Watched an episode of police interceptors earlier in which they were after pulling a Range Rover with a couple of markers against it.Voice over man said it was a 4.0L sport capable of 130m.p.h.,so if the driver floored it he'd lose the police car following him.Police vehicle in question was a Volvo V70 estate, which I'd have thought would at least hold its own with the Rangie.I realise the V70 loaded with all the necessary kit and the light bar on roof etc.,so how fast is a fully police specced V70?

Figured V70 would at least be as fast, obviously from what you've said they're faster. So voice over man saying Rangie would run away from V70 saying this for "effect"?Or some script writer not knowing what they're on about maybe?

They're just trying to 'BIG UP' the programme. Everyone knows that Rangies  (newer ones anyway) are quick. but only in straight lines, when they get to the wobbly stuff even with all the modern suspension & electrikery they are just a brick on wheels  ;D ;D ;D

The V70 will actually do 140mph+ as that is what they are limited to.

In standard form it would be nearer 115mph with all the kit, but they have a "special" Polestar upgrade compared to the standard customer one to overcome all the extra kit. It is designed to give a LOT more torque in the midrange along with a boost for the top end as it was more use round town where most "advanced" and "pursuit" driving is done apparently.

This is the info direct from the Volvo Academy at Daventry when I was employed by Volvo and was up there for a week learning all their performance products.

Was even better being taken round Rockingham Raceway by a BTCC driver in a Polstar-equipped V60 and getting to play on the off-road course and the skid pan in new cars without having to worry about the condition they came back in 😄

I'd say yes, unless it was a Petrol 5.0 V8 SC & it was going flat out down the motorway, get on the twisty bits & it would be fun  :D :D

We have police spec volvo's in our ambulance fleet, only problem is they handle so well and stick to the road like the preverbial that you really have to be careful of your right foot.
