Freeview boxes. Whats hot?
« on: 21 April 2016, 08:11:58 »

Finally at the end of our contract with Beardy Media... now Woman and I want to get a cheap internet deal, and some sort of freeview box.
We assume you can get ones that you can record onto, preferably in a "series link" style? Any recommendations chaps?

I was already on unlimited broadband so a while back I just purchased a 'You View' Freeview box. Although it's a BT freeview box, I purchased it from Argos so there is no contract and no subscription. It will record series link, you can pause and rewind live TV, it has catch up etc and has some apps that I never use so it does the job for me.  :y

Humax Box's ones are still hot (so is the price), most of the BT ones are made by Humax (if going second hand, ebay etc), I have a Digital Stream Box (UK made I believe) which Im more than happy with the sound and Picture quality.

Usual stuff really, Make sure they have HD, twin T2 tuners will give you Live 'Time Shift mode' which is handy when you start to use it, ie, pause live TV, Record at least 2 Channels whilst watching a n other etc, Hard drives can be 500Gb, 1TB, 2TB mines 500gb dont think Ive ever gone above 50% full yet.

Modern ones will give you Smart Tv feature, ie, iPlayer, Catch Up TV, SD Card or USB for Music and Videos, Digital Sound output is handy (Coax / TOS link) if you have external Audio System.

That pretty much it really.
