Windscreen cleaner
« on: 08 May 2016, 10:34:57 »

Hi all...

Just tarting up the saloon for holiday, and I decided to clay the windscreen, as it felt as rough as a poachers dog !! After claying, I went on YouTube and watched a video on the subject.
Now, I was always taught not to wax a windscreen, but the bloke in the vid waxed his. It did look stunning when finished. He said you could use rainex, but he preferred wax and said it lasts about six months. Here is a link, and I would like your comments please....yes or no !!!!!

I've used one of those paint protection type polishes on my windscreen for years[I can get it for nothing]never had any issues with doing so.

i tested some car wax polish against gtechniq windscreen treatment on some new ceramic - a toilet bowl if you must know :-[.  the car wax was a lot cheaper and performed just the same.

I have used wax before but didn't clay first and not really sure it worked well. What clay did you use out of interest?

I always used to wax my windows with no problems
If you use a shampoo with wax added it goes on the Windows anyway even if you don't wax them
It is like anything when I first started driving and cleaning cars it was a bucket with water and fairy liquid and a sponge and was called car washing  :y
Now there is so much choice on Car detailing as it is now called that it is confusing as to what does what and when you need to use what and which order to use it
I have noticed on OOF we don't actually have a detailing section unlike some forums

A detailing section? For washing cars??? Would there be a 7 hour  recording of in........out.......in.......out just in case you forget to breathe during the procedure?? ;D

I suspect that my annual 'technique' of a sponge and some buckets of soapy water followed by 2 or 3 coats(depending on how long the beer stays cold) of whatever polish was on special offer, will be denounced as barbaric and I'll be banished from the Lord Vauxhall's civilised internet 8)

Nick W, that must have been the tape my students used.
Some of the intellectually-challenged used to attend class wearing headphones, and when told to remove them, replied that they really needed them. I listed for myself and they were saying "Breathe in; Breathe out; Breathe in; Breathe Out....."

While I think of it, I have one of these Autoglym valeting kits: http://www.autoglym.com/products/products/the-collection-perfect-bodywork-wheels-and-interiors

It's unused and I've only opened the case once, which was enough for me to realise that I'm never going to use it. £25 to anyone who can collect it from Chatham. Or I'll swap it for enough  85-100mm diameter aluminium bar to make four 75mm long pieces.

If I knew when I could next swing past Chatham I'd have it! Possibly Tuesday or Wednesday... Mind you, I tend to use the Kosovans now so maybe not ::)

You missed the second half of my post ;) :D

Thanks Nick but, in reality, it would just end up sitting in the box here too! Let someone else who has the time and/or inclination have it :y

Plus I've since checked the shed and I've still got plenty of Maguires stuff
