The BBC must . . . . . .

BBC must focus on 'distinctive content'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36259237

If this means the end of endless espisodes at peak time about the morons who live in a fictitious area of East London, then I'm all for it.

I've always felt supportive of Auntie, AND have not minded the license, but the last few years they seem to be churning out mindless crowd pleasers. For some reason they seem to think that they have to chase viewing ratings. Why ? They gain nothing from it. They don't have advertisors to keep happy. Let people who want carp watch the other channels.

I won't go on a rant about E Enders itself . . . . . . Tempting though    ::)

Well I for one will say I think the BBC does produce distinctive content.

Just a few examples. War and Peace, Happy valley, Wildlife documentaries

The BBC should stop chasing ratings.

It should be a beacon of excellence. It should not feel the need to dumb down in order to compete with 'popular crap'

Game shows along with badly scripted and acted soaps should have no place on the BBC.

There are plenty of commercial channels who are more than willing to show wall to wall crap each night. :)

I will never have a shred of respect for it as long as it refuses to discuss or disclose exactly how much it receives in funding from the EU.

BBC must focus on 'distinctive content'

Mind you, one wonders what exactly John Whittingdale means my "distinctive content" given his personal life recently in the news  ::) "cough cough". Maybe dramatisation of the literary works by the Marquis de Sade  ?

ok, stop there  ::)

Couldn't agree more, even more so in the summer months hate weekend TV shows so if not reading go out with the dog for a good long walk, most TV now is aimed at people who must be brain dead.

Agreed, why make 'crowd pleasers'. Also, they don't have the traditional BC v ITV ratings wars to worry about like 20 years ago, because ratings have collapsed with the advent of sky / digital / on demand tv, why not make smaller volume, higher quality. Same as many British manufacturers do. Don't concentrate on the volumes, concentrate on the quality.

You have missed the point.

It's all about the government wanting to control, what the BBC do, and produce, they want to cut the amount of money the BBC get, so they(government) can keep it, and too have a state controlled media, that is why, they keep harping on about costs and wages, hoping the public will back them about the cost.

Look at it this way how much does the equivalent cable-satellite package cost?, to recive the same content.

You have to back the BBC to stay as it is,without government interference.

But dont you find that what ever government is in power,That the BBC are always on side.... Look how the BBC are reporting the EU thing..There reporting seems to be... If we come out the EU the UK goes down the pan....From there point of view there is not one good reason why we should come out..
