2.5TD Leaking Injectors
« on: 24 May 2016, 22:38:09 »

It would appear that two or three of my injectors have started to leak quite badly, I can guarantee that it is not delete back pipe as I have replaced that in the last week or so. From what I can see that injector nearest the bulkhead and number three has diesel leaking out the top of it, is this a common problem? And how can I rectify this? Am I looking at replacing the injectors?

Injector 6 has a blanking cap on it. Has the old one perished? Is all of the old one off if it was replaced? I mention as both senarios happened on mine. Is the leak off pipe on number 3 fully on? They are awkward to fit, espsialy if you have big hands

Hi Keith,

Is injector 6 the one by the bulk head? The leak off pipe is all correctly fitted, I made sure of that... I'll check that cap out over the weekend.

I had a td for 10yrs & never had a problem with any leaky injectors. the blank on 6 needed replacing about 3 times & once when I did it - it leaked almost immediately the blank swelled. I put it down to a bad batch. if my td didn't start almost first turn of ignition I checked the leak-off pipes just by squeezing where it went on to nipple & if diesel was on my fingers the pipes wanted renewing. also I replaced them with longer so instead of replacing I,d just cut the ends off & shove back on. another thing instead of paying daft money for the tubing kits I went to Pirtex & buy about a :y 10 foot length for a couple of quid & cut to size.

if you need to put new injector seals on you may find a range rover dealer a lot cheaper than vx or bmw. also if you are doing them & need the sockets I bought the two needed (one is for No 4 & has the cutaway to accommodate the sensor wire. ) i never used them  but you would be quite welcome to borrow them, just pm me .

Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply, I've not had a chance to look at the car yet... Having not long moved house its fallen down the priority list some what  :-\

What are these blanks you mention? do they sit on top of the injectors then? I've had a look on ebay and you're right about the Range Rovers having the same injectors... I thought about whipping all mine out and just getting them repaired? Do you think that would be worth while or should i just replace?

Appreciate the offer of borrowing the special socket, i think i'll have to take you up on that!  :y

the leak-off pipes go from injector to injector , on No 5 the l/off pipe goes to No 6 as norm but the very last nipple on 6 has a tiny pipe which is the same bore as all your other pipes but is blanked off . they are  only 20mm at most in length, hard to see, a mirror may help. i shall have a look soon & see if i still have some blanks, if so i shall send you them. but a motor factors will stock them.
