Kinda missed the point ::)

No point missed at all Doc, just saying that the windscreen wont be removed/replaced anytime soon.... or anytime before the next MoT is due as I wont be putting mine through its next test coz we're changing cars next year....

I have a similar problem with rust in the windscreen recess and Autoglass have refused to fit the new screen until the repair is done to their satisfaction.BUT what they don't realise is.. that with that policy they have forced me to take the car of the road for the last 3 weeks as it's been virtually impossible to get anyone here to take on the repairs. And also unbeknown to me Autoglass have refunded my £75 excess and not told me why....what's that all about? Anyway I've managed to find someone to do the work, but I've had to arrange recovery to move the car over to the workshop which is 16 miles away..but at least it's finally going this morning and having read the comments about the trims then I think I'll pay for new ones, that's if they are easy to get :-\

The problem you have is most insurance companies refuse to pay for trims. Insurance companies have deals with windscreen companies. Like they will pay a set price per job but refuse to pay for trim, clips etc

If they have to use trims its not insurance companies who pay for them. And as we all know a trim kit for an omega ain't cheap.

If say insurance pay £100 plus the excess. But you have the screen and the bonding kit that's most of that cash away. If the windscreen company has to pay for trim kit. Its not worth doing the job. Hence why they bring out the wrong screen etc. Job doesn't get done and its off or sometimes customer kicks up with insurance company then send Jo to another company then the cycle starts again

Its not windscreen companies at fault its the insurance dictating prices

They pay a lot more than that though ;)

Yea. Some pay more some pay less. Was just an example of prices not actual prices. Don't want to get myself into trouble with the company now  :-X

Autoglass replaced my screen the other day. All new trims/ rubbers were supplied ( there were lots of boxes and plastic bags ) and fitted. Have to say, they did a very neat job. Got it done free as Autoglass agreed to take care of my excess as they'd turned up the week before with the wrong screen.

Lucky sod! Managed to get my excess paid in the end, but still on my old, fragile rubber.

I hate how fluid 'truth' us. AUTOGLASS, DO YOU PROVIDE THE RUBBER TRIM? YES OR NO - yesnoermwellishyouseeitdependswhoyoutalktoactuallywerenotsure  :'(

Looks like this topic may run for a bit, I recently posted earlier about the rusty windscreen recess and Autoass wouldn't fit the new screen until the repairs were carried out.At that time I asked them to fit new trims and even offered to provide them at my own expense if they didn't provide them as standard, and was assured that they would provide them as part of the screen replacement....nice one I thought. But on the day that they did the job,the fitter said that the trims were unavailable and had put the old ones back which at the time looked sort of OK. :-\
But looking at them this morning, they feel loose and so I have just ordered a set of trims from VX,and will be speaking to Autoass customer services in the morning.
Question....do the trims have a function or are they just a cosmetic finisher,or does the screen have to come out again to fit them, as screens are a bit of a mystery to me ::) BUT.. regardless of what sort of resolution I get,Autoass is one shite company >:(

Well they yend not to stay on and fitted at just above the legal limit..... I had to collect mine from the middle lane of the M6....!!!! I oppsing shit meself too..... fortunately is was quiet for once...

They are just cosmetic, and just finish the screen surround. they serve no other function but to help the windscreen look nice...

I dont suppose you have the part number do you Nitro...?

Purely a cosmetic item. Side bits try to stop the water spraying round the door glasses but never works.

Ideally the screen should be removed for fitting of new trims don't let them tell you otherwise!!! What we call a back fill and bodge job :y

Look forward to hearing the outcome on this. Mine look awful and there's a big gap between the rubber and the roof corner.

When I fit them I bond the trim to the glass so they don't come off. Most fitters dont
