Focus diesel
« on: 27 June 2016, 19:15:37 »

Stepdaughter has a X reg Focus 1.8 turbo diesel, she's told me that if she "strays" above 70 then the oil light starts flashing, however if she holds below this speed it doesn't.Any ideas what the cause could be?

Apparently mileage is just shy of 140,000.She's had the car a good few months unknown service history before she bought it and apart from fuel she's done naff all to it,then she's coming to me for answers :D ;D

All this is being passed by text message.Oil level correct she tells me and the oil she bought she didn't mention a brand just that she'd bought it because it said "suitable for Ford diesel engines"on the container! :D I've told her to try oil/filter change-with a decent oil-and possibly an oil pressure switch[depending on how much these are and how flush with cash she is]as I'm told that these engines can have issues with these, and see how she goes from there.

I'm surprised it can do 70, that 1.8 was truly a crock. Even GM's 1.7 from that era was better...  ...and that isn't a compliment to either ;D

the 1.8 tddi goes pretty well and fuel pump issues aside is bombproof :y

Sadly to common of the Ford diesels of that era :(

If it was me in this case it would be an oil change and check the level carefully, if an injector is leaking it will be getting diluted with diesel and making it mega thin.
