Roads darn sarf
« on: 01 July 2016, 15:52:01 »

I've got a few nights work starting Sunday night working down in Newhaven.
The thing is, in the offices wisdom, they have put us up in the Europa Gatwick Hotel which if Google maps is to believed, is about a hour travelling time  >:(

Looking at the route, its a trip down the A23 / A27

What are these roads like ?

We will be likely travelling north about 6 in the morning and south about half 5 or 6pm for a 7pm start  :-\

Any heads up on roadwork's / traffic jam spots appreciated  :)

That will be at the start of the rush hour, so traffic will probably be heavy but moving. The A23 and start of the A27 are all good roads; the last few miles to Newhaven are merely OK.
An hour's travelling time is about right.
How flexible are the arrangements, as that area is hardly short of hotels?

Shouldn't be too bad, not exactly a local Hotel though, plenty of other options to stay even if its in Gay Sunny Brighton.

So to recap, take in consideration the Rush Hour(s), The Airport ques, someone spining it on the M23, a lorry dumping its load on the A23, or getting behind a Tractor que and Learners on the A27, should be fine, other wise you could probably do Leeds and back in less time where you live.  ;D

I suppose the person to ask would have been Taxi Al, but sadly He's not around any more.

The Europa is a shit to head south from... it's off junction 10a of the M23... southbound exit/northbound entry... and sits on the B2036.

This gives you two options...

1. Go back up the M23 to junction 10 to turn round... not pretty even at that time of day, especially if the weather is crap...

2. Head south down the B2036, taking a right turn onto the B2110 and join the A23 at Handcross.

Distance wise, there's actually little in it, but option 2 would be my preferred one.

Looking at 20-25 mins from the Europa to the A27, fast dual carriageway all the way, but well patrolled and often a traffic car/bike on a bridge or two...

A27 is Dual carriageway to Lewes, then single most of the way to Eastbourne.

You will be going against the flow in the morning, so up to jcn 10 then straight down to the 27, then steady away into Newhaven.

Worst bit of whole journey both ways is A27/A23  it's a badly designed jcn.

On a bad day, the northboutd queue for j10 backs to nearly j10a... once committed to going that way, there is no plan b.

try google maps, set destination with right click on map, set start location, choose leave time and day and it will estimate the journey time based on traffic at that time/day.

Nothing new there; twenty years ago I found it quicker to get from Haywards Heath to work in Manor Royal by avoiding the A/M23, going through Balcombe and past where the OP's hotel is. That was before J10a was there. Or the hotel for that matter ;D

I have to partially disagree with Bigriffin, although the A23/A27 junction ebound is badly laidout, the worst part is past Lewes to Newhaven.

The road from the A27 roundabout into Newhaven dock takes 15mins at most,, on a busy day, if it's busy stop for a tea at the little tea van on right hand side, going in to Newhaven.

That sounds good to me providing the weather isn't too bad  :-\

What's the B2036 / 2120 like ?

B roads up here tend to be for tractors ect  :-\

Take the most direct and easiest route.
Put the details into the talking box, see what it's says then add 15minutes. :y

Remember Dr golham knows a taxi driver, and they go up and round wills mothers, to try and save a mile  ;)
