Interesting timing, I'll prob look for an XC90 for MrsT at some point.
Made me look at S80's, they do appear great value for money. Like the Omega a depreciation disaster means good news for us.
I've always liked the look of a XC90, strange we never had these as motorway cars

Only problem is unless you get a fairly new one the tax rate is about £500 / year. Never driven one but one of my colleagues has one and he absolutely loves it.
Re. the S80 only had a couple of these too on the motorway. the engines come in various guises of the T6 197bhp, 210 bhp, 241bhp, and the bonkers 341bhp. Quite roomy inside, but bland dashboard & interior. The engines are very refined & to get any 'performance' of of it you need at least the 210 bhp as its one heavy car. Its not quite as agile as the T5 (My personal opinion) and the suspension seems softer (rather like more of a elegant waft) as you drive it around. If you start throwing it around corners it will pitch and wallow. Fuel wise, well its a T6 so no comments needed really. I could easily empty a tank on a shift.
Reliability wise - I found the engines to be bomb proof & only needed regular servicing to get easily north of 200k. Front suspension takes a battering though being WWD and once a component goes get it sorted as tyre wear can be a nightmare.
