Driven a S80 V8 AWD - not a bad car, typical solid Volvo - better than the first generation S80s (up to 2006), and certainly more poke than the T6.  Certainly better than a Ford Focus

I'm informed this engine is fitted to the Noble sports car, and with the aid of turbochargers gives 650 BHP.

Should I believe this?

The same source tells me the engine is made by Yamaha.

watch for the turning circle, my v70 had a terrible one and this has an extra cylinder in an already wrongly positioned engine

I've always liked the look of a XC90, strange we never had these as motorway cars  Only problem is unless you get a fairly new one the tax rate is about £500 / year. Never driven one but one of my colleagues has one and he absolutely loves it.

Re. the S80 only had a couple of these too on the motorway. the engines come in various guises of the T6 197bhp, 210 bhp, 241bhp, and the bonkers 341bhp. Quite roomy inside, but bland dashboard & interior. The engines are very refined & to get any 'performance' of of it you need at least the 210 bhp as its one heavy car. Its not quite as agile as the T5 (My personal opinion) and the suspension seems softer (rather like more of a elegant waft) as you drive it around. If you start throwing it around corners it will pitch and wallow. Fuel wise, well its a T6 so no comments needed really. I could easily empty a tank on a shift.
Reliability wise - I found the engines to be bomb proof & only needed regular servicing to get easily north of 200k. Front suspension takes a battering though being WWD and once a component goes get it sorted as tyre wear can be a nightmare.

Car I had in mind is a 272bhp '02 plate... Has done some miles though, and needs some tlc... Looks like alot of car for the money though

The only problems we had when the miles got really up where they tended to overheat and the H/G would normally expire, but that said once the spanner monkeys at HQ sorted that issue, they'd carry on going. Usually other things little would give way after the head repair & their age & (the devil cars) were coming through so they were just auctioned off  for peanuts with a re-built top end.

Yeah, you're not wrong. They're like a container ship to swing round.  Top tip : if you're ever being chased by the fuzz and they're in V70s just keep pulling U turns

I'd be very wary of post 1998 volvo build quality.  The products they produce are still nicely ergonomic and lightyears better than the shitty fords they are based upon, but build quality is not great.  And under ford's custodianship the corner cutting will likely only get worse as time progresses.

I think all WWD cars have a poor turning circle when compared to a RWD car,after all the joints on the drive shafts can only swivel so far.Must admit thus far I've not encountered any problems in this regard with the V70 but then I've not been in any situations with it where it would be an issue,but there's yet time

Must also stick to stringent oil changes. When I bought mine is had the crank seize because the previous owners did the yearly service (whatever that is) and the oil filter broke down and got sucked into the block. So that was an extra 750 for engine and fitting.

But the good news is the engines are modular and the ECU controls the power lol if it makes sense,  in my  case I had a 2.4 170 classic and the engine I bought was a 2.4 140 (the mechanics did laugh at me because I got the wrong lump) but I laughed at them when it fired up

Ford haven't owned Volvo since 2010, sold to Geely Automobile, a Chinese company. As for their build quality, compared with the BMW's I drive today, I'd take a Volvo any day of the week over them over-rated useless excuses for a paperweight!
