Town was quiet on Friday night, I wasn't woken this morning by hoards of helicopters flying over.

No. Or at least not in the UK at the moment. There is so much wrong with F1 that its difficult to know where to start, but in short, its slowly disappearing up its own arse.
Despite that though, the Brits have Hamilton who is an incredible racing driver. The best since Senna. He may win his fourth title this season, and whether he does or not, he will no doubt provide plenty of excitement during the season.
I still watch it just to watch him. If he wasn't there, I would probably have given up on it a few years ago.
Now if the sport was properly run, so we could see him and the others actually driving cars which depend almost entirely on their talent, rather than tedious technology, it could be the most exciting thing in the world, which is what it should be.

Used to watch it in the 80's-went a couple of times to Brands Hatch-the atmosphere in Brands was out of this world! Saw Mansell win his first GP and Prost his first championship.  Entertainment around the clock-other races-fly byes-night time bands. Then went to Silverstone about 89/90-what a difference-no atmosphere-pubs empty-racing shite!very little entertainment-down hill from then.

F1 at Brands was a sight to behold. I loved watching it there. Ive never liked Silverstone, but it is well suited to the mind bendingly fast modern F1 cars.
Apparently next season they are going to make the racing better for spectators by giving the cars MORE downforce !!

I believe he has a thermos flask and picnic rug tucked down the side of his seat, in case he has the chance of a 15 minute break during the race.

I've never been interested in F1, im a rally guy    Always thought it was a bit dull, a bit like nascar just going round and round. But the pre 90s stuff is cool.

The WRC stuff is nice but then u get the historic stuff like 2-stroke SAAB 96s, Triumphs (!), Lancias and Quattros

Dont watch it anymore, whilst there is a skill in driving one of those machines, its become far too High Tech and Tech Regulated now, with the Manufactures spending £100K trying to shave 0.0001 second off a laptime. 

Wouldn't surprise me if H&S said the cars have to Driver-less in 20 years time.

I agree with you there. I was brought up on the Gulf London and RAC rally when it was maybe five days (no hotels) and covered all of Britain not just a few miles in Wales. My mate has had more than ten rally SAABs mostly two strokes. Epic cars.

Maybe I'm a completely boring git and everyone else is cool fun lovers..... but I love the f1. Been to silverstone practise Friday's for the last 4 years now. Still to this day it boggles my mind how fast they take corners.

Yeah there are some dull races with no jostling for position and it can seem like a procession. But most of the time it's fast cars and the races usually incident packed. Love it.

As for Hamilton. Again, I must just differ from the general public cos I can't stand the guy. Really beginning to like young max though
