Omega 2,0 16v 1994
« on: 23 July 2016, 23:39:39 »

Hi. Recently bought a 1994 omega 2,0 16v x20xev. Car runs great but idles very badly. It sometimes idles at 500 rpm, sometimes it drops to 250 and up to 500 again and it sometimes just dies at idle. After driving for a while it also tends to hunt between 1000-1500 rpm at idle. But always runs perfectly when driving. It also shows engine management light at idle much of the time. Eml always goes out when driving. Fault code is 73 mass airflow but changed that for a used maf which made no difference. Cleaned idle control valve without results and tried another icv with no difference. Cant see any obvious cracks/leaks in the intake hoses. The small breatherhose from the cam cover has vaccum/suction. Dont know what to check next?

Have you checked cam/crank sensors

My crank sensor for instance, the wires that passes over the cams are all cracked and perished so Ive left it alone (If it aint broke dont touch it)

Also the cam sensor can get trapped by the plug cover
