Knocking noise from rear strut I think?
« on: 28 July 2016, 20:15:54 »

Looking for a bit of sage advice. I done the rear subframe bushes today thinking it would get rid of the knock I am experiencing. No such luck, but the bushes needed changed anyway.
I have had a search on the forum and gather that aftermarket shocks probably need the estate mounts. So it got me thinking, would it be possible to add M16 penny washers to the assembly on the arch part, to raise it up by 5mm or so? It makes sense in my head.

Estate mounts are shallower than saloon ones, and are required due to poorly designed shocks with shorter rods than Sachs/genuine items... :-X

Knock could be from shocks, rear diff mounts or exhaust :y

Only reason I think it's the shock is my wife identified that area when she was sitting in the back. I'm hopefully doing my wishbones tomorrow so I might take the shock out and have a look.

If original self levelling shocks, inflate them as per guide and check for damage/wear... :y

Previous owner had changed the shocks, don't know if they are even a pair!

I sincerely hope it's not the diff mounts, unavailable everywhere I've looked

Had a root around this morning, spring is missing the lower pigtail so I'm thinking that might be the problem!

I have a decent pair off an estate, of the 10 or so Omega's I have destroyed taken apart for useable spares it's the only pair I would have the confidence to sell
