Life sentence
« on: 01 August 2016, 18:32:06 »

So a bloke has attacked a total stranger with a breadknife, apparently they say if the knife had not broken the victim would in all probability have been killed.Attacker was/is it seems a paranoid scisophrenic [I know that's spelt wrong :-\]The judge has handed down a life sentence with a recommendation that he serves a minimum of eight and a half years ??? Surely life should mean what it says on the tin!

It doesn't.

This sort of behaviour isn't uncommon, as mentally ill patients are now treated and encouraged to live a normal life.  That's fine *IF* you can guarantee they take the meds....

I keep saying it,this country is run by limp wristed spineless fools, who do not have our safety and well being as a priority. The good old USA would have given him a full life term, personally ::) I would have fast tracked him out the back door of the court and slotted him,but instead we have him just 4 miles from us in Broadmoor, perhaps I can go visit him ;)

This is the problem isn't it TB?A few years down the line some do-gooder is likely to say "Oh yes he's perfectly safe now as long as he keeps taking his meds,so we can release him"or something along those lines.Of course the first thing he's likely to do is stop taking the meds as they make him feel "funny"and we'll be back to square one!I'm not advocating a death sentence [although in a fair number of cases I would]but to me life should mean exactly that and not a day sooner.

An (abridged) example from the loony bin asylum support centre (with day release) up the road.

"Hi, is that the police? We have one of our residents walking about with a knife, hes just come through reception with it"
"Where is he?"
"He's in the ward, with about a dozen other residents""
"Is that the ward that has a secure access chamber that acts like an airlock?"
"Yes it is"
"Did you not think to keep him in said chamber once you spotted the knife?"
"Err...".

Luckily ended with no casualties (but lots of paperwork)...

We never learn a hard lesson,we just bumble along and leave it to the inept to make decisions that may only affect an unlucky minority going about their business as in this case, but could have been much worse, save for a few brave individuals on the day.

Of course, it could be a clever ploy. After all, the UK is hugely over populated.

Isn't it odd that similar attacks are nearly always reported to be perpetrated by someone with a "mental disorder" of some kind?

;)

Very many of the perpetrators of atrocities in recent times (including those by so called IS, and U.S. gun massacres)have either been heavy cannabis users or on strong anti depressants.
It seems to add a further complication that the authorities have no idea how to tackle, so they ignore it and bury the info.

In civilised society, surely any such attacks can only be undertaken by such people?

Unless such perpetrators are not used to civilised society.   ;)

Correct, and an average life sentence is 7 years! :( Ignore Care in the community means that on average 8 people per year are murdered from such crimes. They are released and live among us! :o :o :o

In my world there wouldn't be any life sentence's,DNA evidence, and reliable CCTV/witness statements would earn you a fast track to a headshot,so that usable organs could be harvested and used to give deserving human beings a chance of life...hard? no! just don't kill innocent people...simples :)
