Debadge
« on: 02 August 2016, 00:08:18 »

Hi all...
First off, let me make this quite clear, it is not an affront to anyone who has done it......but why do people debadge a car ???
Asked in total ignorance and curiosity :y

Do you go around with badges saying "Male" "Human" on your arse? No? Then why does your car need to announce it's status?  ;D

Looks tidier IMO. Everyones different. One thing I can't stand myself is cars with those great big GB stickers or any daft stickers on the bodywork. Bad enough on the Windows. If it's to cover a dent then that's just lazy ;D

Heres a pic of my old 3.0 LPG Irmscher Elite, totally debadged, VX Griffin as well, people would often ask what make is it.

Still think its well suited without badges.

Looks good with out any  8)

Would probably have also removed the Griffin logo an all if it wasn't for the hole it'd leave behind. Easy enough to fill i know but on the other hand i kinda like the centre badge.

I get that pretty often also mainly in car parks, petrol stations... Had the person at the till at a Shell petrol station on Sunday saying thats nice what is it?.. Also not long ago at an Indian restaurant they where also asking what it was, Is it a American muscle car?...  It's entertaining seeing people scratch their head wondering what it is at times.. Seems like almost everyone has forgotten what an Omega is/was ;D

That looked really nice  8) 8)  and a great example of de-badging  :y

My 370z has been de-badged and  the Nissan `burgers` replaced with black Z badges from America, also the `GT Edition` stripes down the side have been removed, all of this gives it a better, cleaner look IMHO.

My blue Elite...completely debadged, red MV6...completely except for Griffin on the boot lid, white MV6 bootl lid and doors as per VX.So no real strong opinions for either camp. Debadging does clean up the lines on the car and does work in respect of the cars identity,as owners you do get asked 'what is it' on occasions. So I guess thinking about  it a bit more,if you are a purist...then correct badging will be of importance, but for any one who likes to put their own stamp on their car then the reverse will apply. :-\

I've never got it, but each to their own. Take to point that when a car is being 'clinic-ed' (looked at pre-production for review, sometimes by members of the general public, too) then they'll rarely have badges on, in part so people aren't swayed by the badge, in part so the lines aren't spoiled.

Mine's debadged on the nearside door at present - after the smash I haven't found my spare CDX badge yet!  :D

I can't speak for why people do it in the UK but in Germany, many prestige car owners don't like people knowing what it is they are driving and take the badges off to keep people guessing.

One of mine is debadged and I'll probably do the same to project II. I prefer the look when  debadged and its far easier to clean and polish.

Will take more than a GB sticker to hide that ripple ;D

... and, if it's a BMW, to cover up for the fact that your boss would only let you have a 318. ;D
