Must admit that I very nearly bought a Makita Impact Wrench last year to go with my other Makita stuff but decided that it wouldn't get enough use in my hands so I got a longer breaker bar instead. Downside with longer breaker bars for suspension work etc is the lack of room to swing them. Great for undoing wheel nuts though.  :y
I did notice that you have to be careful when reviewing prices as a lot are sold bare and decent batteries ain't cheap.
In saying that, I didn't think I'd use my Makita Impact Driver around the house but that thing is an absolute godsend.  :y

It is hard to justify, currently pricing up the one Webby has, £260 with battery + charger + body. I'm only a light DIY'er at the end of the day, I think these are just a toy really and make life a little easier. It's hard to justify their real value, as you can just use a breaker bar. I see it's main duties as:

Wheel nuts (saves faffing with breaker bar) - Time saver too. (also primary use, as wheels come off fair bit)
Shock Lower Bolts
Brake Caliper Mounts/Shocks for front disc changes
Diff Mount bolts, for lowering diff on spring changes

I'm thinking of the times I've cracked a nut with big bar, then it takes 10,000 goes on the wrench to free off said bolt completley. This would be a great time saver.

Absolutely.  :y  At times like that it would be really useful as it would minimise the anger when you realise that said nut is going to fight you right to the bitter end.   ::)

I say this every time, a good impact wrench is so expensive, you need to have in your hand all day. That isn't the case for DIY, where its main use is to save some effort on the large, long bolts that hold suspension together. A good quality cordless system becomes much more justifiable once you add extra tools: 18volt batteries are good for drills, light use angle-grinders, jigsaws etc. I haven't used a mains drill in years, even though we have several.

A long-handled, flex-head 1/2" ratchet gives most of those advantages and is a fraction of the price. Takes up no space in the car for efficient roadside wheel changes. Spend some of the saving on a similar 3/8" ratchet, and that will help jobs like caliper bolts, or repeatedly turning the crank through on cambelt replacements. If you're still feeling extravagant, a stubby 3/8" ratchet is good for lots of small short bolts like on a sump.

I bought my bare DeWalt impact driver (as it matched the rest of my stuff) as a gift to myself for being a good boy, thinking it wouldn't see that much use, but it certainly has earned its £70 or whatever it cost.

It probably gets as much use as the rest of the set I have.
