Hi, I've got a bit of a problem with my Omega CDX V6 Estate.
When I brake softly, all is okay, but when I brake a bit harder (mid-pedal), the car veers to the right and the steering wheels turns to the left... It's a bit unnerving! However, If you let go of the steering wheel it pulls up straight. We've had the brakes and suspension checked, four-wheel alignment done and new discs and pads, callipers checked, so all should be working well. It's a mystery to our mechanic - any ideas, please? Thanks in advance.

First port of call is wishbone bushes and TRE's.

Do you do DIY car work?

Had basically same problem on my v6. New wishbone bushes fixed it:)

usually a worn rear front wishbone bush

Friend of mine had this problem. Initially found a bit of wear in the steering idler arm, which he replaced, and although it improved it slightly, didn't cure it. Changed the wishbones, and like others have suggested, it sorted it.

We've had the front right wishbone bush changed with a Vauxhall part as it had some wear in it. However, not the left. Should they be done in pairs?

Some folk will change everything in pairs. I reckon, apart from brake pads, shock absorbers and springs, you can get away with replacing one obviously faulty item. if the car feels all right afterwards.

Anything that the car relies on to drive/steer/stop should be in pairs...

No idea what state opposite side is in, but it's most likely the same age/mileage, and given set up costs, false economy to do one side at a time imho

Tyres are the only reasonable exception to this as they are easy enough to check for wear/damage

It's not just the set up costs, but the Omega's sensitivity to anything being slightly off that makes doing only one side a bad idea. I've quite happily fitted just one wishbone to other cars when that has demonstrably been the problem.

I had the exact problem a couple of years ago.
As said, ECP do a good set but due to lack of money at the time I took a chance and fitted this little lot.

The car has done a good 15000 since with absolutely no problems

Nobody buys genuine Vx wishbones as they're very expensive and the tiny quality difference makes them extremely poor value.


I have the set in that link on my car.

I tend to refurb my (GM) wishbones with new bushes.  The forward bush, I use poly bushes which don't wear and don't need a special fitting procedure, for rearward bushes I use GM bushes which are about £9 each - I bought 4 the other day.

If using new wishbones with rubber front bushes, you need to tighten and torque with the car in an unjacked state, else the bush will fail prematurely.
