I desperately want one for no real reason; although a pre '66 example would get me into the super special parking at Goodwood Revival..

I know where there is a series 1, dry stored for the last 20 years which needs a new bulk head.....

Ah yes, I forgot to mention.. I think I'd lose my testicles in a terrible accident with a kitchen spoon if I actually came home with a LR ;D :'(

Be sensible, Sir Tig.

Buy a Lada Niva instead. ::)

The girls love a Lada. :)

The pleb parking can't be bad enough to warrant that, surely? ;)

Good luck with that; they were never particularly common here, and the ones that still work aren't for sale. That's mainly because the modern replacement is a brand new one.

As for Defenders, Mark's advice is spot on: if you NEED one there's no competition, although they do make a good toy. If you want something in between, buy a scruffy Discovery.

We had a low tune V8 80 series on the squadron out in sausage land in the mid / late 80's

Would absolutely go anywhere that thing  :y :y
No amount of mud or snow would stop it in our experience  :y :y

As a slightly naughty little side line, we left the squadron's phone number extension with a bar owner in Weeze and with his discretion / vetting, we was available to pull out some of the locals and any of the lads or lasses off the camp for a smallish (50 Dm) if on nights  ::)
With the roads around there and across to the Dutch border pretty treacherous in winter, we made quite a few quid out of it   ;D

My bro has just bought a defender, not new, but reasonably new. Diesel, tho dunno what engine it has in it. It has two full size seats in the back that fold away to the sides
His wife gave me a lift in it a couple of weeks ago. I asked if she liked driving it, her reply "Yes, its good fun and youve got absolutely no chance of falling asleep at the wheel doing 70mph in it on the motorway" So read that how you like  :-\ ;D

I think his kids use it for driving in the fields he owns surrounding his house  ::)

Does he need one? He needs a 4x4 where he lives in the winter. Theres two ways to get to his place, one is up a very steep single track lane, other is down it. Heavy frost or snow in the winter a 2 wheel drive, no chance!

He used to buy Disco's, but soon discovered the error of his ways....after engines/gearboxes needed replacing at regular intervals!

I used to work for British Steel, coated steels, color coat, plastic coated profile sheets etc,we had 2 long wheel base plasisol coated ones. The only 2 that were ever build like that, they were the most unreliable motors ever built, but they were petrol,Hated them.
