going on government figures I think they place it around the 55 mark, but some of the guys on here who run them may have more accurate figures

My 3.2 gets progressively more thirsty above about 60. Might be more economical below 60 but that's slow enough for me. Certainly not more economy to be had driving faster.

i would have thought that the minimum tractable speed in top gear would be the most economical. :-/

My 2.2 is the most economical at 60. Not a 2.6 I know but maybe the same pattern will develop across the engine range?

I second that 55  - 60 seems best for my V6

good question, i always ment to post that up but
never got round to it. Reason being i always assumed
56 way the most economical because i thought
That was the speed manufacturers quoted their
Best figures at. But is it? I can barely bring myself
to do less than 70 usually but on a tired trip home
From work i just sit in the left lane trying to save fuel.
So is it an indicated 56? Or a real 56? Given the normal
error built into speedometers(10%?) an indicated 56 would be
A real 51 according to my tomtom. Or to look at it the
other way an indicated 60 would be a real 55, pretty
close to the 56 i was guessing would be best. I have
Never tried my 22 mile motorway journey at set
Speeds, to check econ. bit dim really. Ill try it next
week if i can be patient enough.
