Had problems with wipers on my Desmond but since fitting Bosch Aerotwins had no issues at all and seem to be lasting very well too. :y

Cheap flexible blades last me 2 to 3 years and cost about £7 for all three.

Ensuring that the linkage is properly secured to the motor, and that the balljoints are lubricated would help. Another big cause of noisy wipers is a dirty or worn screen, which you might not consider too bad.

Mine are Bosch standard at the moment I have tried the aero type and find little difference. The main noise seems to be as they change direction.

Ball joints of the linkage, not visible 'externally'. There's one motor, with a ball an socket link (think the driven wheels on the side of Thomas the Tank Engine) which move both wiper arms. You can just see them peering under the scuttle, I think for ease of access you want to pop the scuttle trim off. A pain and a faff the first time, however, once you bin the near-useless little clips that do very little, removal next time is but a 5 min job.  :)

With you asking that, you've reminded me it's worth me lubing my balls, too.  ;D :y

Get a decent glass polish and clean the windscreen properly, once a month  ;)

If you can get your hands on a machine polisher, use that  :y

The aero style ones do stay quieter for longer, are good for removing rain.  They are poor at removing dirt, flies and the other shite that gets up there.

I use Bosch traditional style wipers on the MV6
I use Bosch aero style wipers on the Elite due to its piss poor, stupid, pathetic rain sensor that feels the need for fast wipe when it detects moisture within the northern hemisphere.

Both last about 2yrs*

* Ignoring the constant failures I get on the passenger side aero style one.  It appears the blade snaps internally, making it floppy and more useless than normal, when driven at speed in cold weather.  Not a fault with Bosch as Goodyear, Michelin and some no-name ones all do the same.

The wipers on one of my Omegas were noisy, especially at the top of the sweep when they changed direction. Thought it was the blades, but new ones didn't make much difference.
Then I found that there was a about an 1" of free play if I lifted up the blade and moved the arm in the direction of the sweep. The arms were secure; it was wear in the linkage. Replaced it with a complete motor and linkage (it was just easier to swap the whole lot), and it cured the problem - now have quiet wipers again.

I bought these a year ago from eBay - Item No. 160744738010 - and they are still as good and quiet as the day I fitted them; they clean efficiently in all rain conditions and at £5:70 for both front wipers including postage I thought they were a bargain.
