Rear hand brake adjusters
« on: 16 September 2016, 16:50:23 »

hi all
need a bit of adjustment on the handbrake on the newly aquired 2.6 CDX  "Inastate"

When adjusting /rolling the notched adjuster wheel through the hole , I just want to know

which way the adjusting wheel rotates to take up the play .( To bring shoes closer to drum)

Is it 12 o'clock to 6 (downwards)  or 6  to 12 (upwards)  Seem to remember it is downwards, but probably wrong  ::) ::)

Also to make things more complicated  . . .does it revolve the same way on both sides
( N/s  & o/s }  ?

any advice greatly appriciated     cheers, Al :y

I think it's upwards to bring it in/release, however, I believe they can be reassembled either way up, so someone may have been there and buggered it up for you, so to speak. Afraid it's one of them 'try, ans see until the wheel/drum won't rotate' then you know you're going in the wrong direction... That's IF you can turn the little sod.

Now that really is confusing  ::) ::)

just trial & error I suppose  . ...  .just thought I might find out for sure & be adjusting the right way first time  :D :D

You might want to scratch a mark on the disc so you know for the next time

Look through the hole and see if you can see the thread of the adjuster. If the thread is to the left screw it down 12 to 6 and if on the right, screw it up, (if you'll excuse the expression), that'll adjust the shoes out.

have a look here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=125595.msg1665527#msg1665527

an update - defo worth backing off only the minimum to get free spinning, say 1 point, my handbrake after adjustment kicked in immediately but now a year and a half later is a couple of clicks. had I backed off more I would be having to tighten it soon.

Think of them as bolts you're doing up clockwise with the head at the back of the car. So nearside you turn the star adjuster upwards and offside you turn them downwards.  ;)

But what if they have been switched as explained in above posts ?   Will be the other way around won't it/

Not doing this until back from hols   . . . . but sure I can sort it . I just presumed there was "right"  way  . . .

Guess not  ::) ::)

I did mine last weekend .
NS/LH is down to get the shoe to interfere with the drum, OS/RH is up.

Ok thanks  . . . when I do it I will start like that  ;)

logic seems to point at  .  .that what ever way the n/s needs to be adjusted  . . the o/s will be the opposite ;) ;)

A picture paints a thousand words - hope this helps, and would seem to be the normal arrangement.
