Think of them as bolts you're doing up clockwise with the head at the back of the car. So nearside you turn the star adjuster upwards and offside you turn them downwards.  ;)

But what if they have been switched as explained in above posts ?   Will be the other way around won't it/

Not doing this until back from hols   . . . . but sure I can sort it . I just presumed there was "right"  way  . . .

Guess not  ::) ::)

If they havn't been interfered with, this is the way they should go.  It's the way they're set up on mine and I recently adjusted the handbrake on my BMW and it was the same on that.  :y

Basically though, whichever way you turn it, if you can't lock the hub up then you're turning it the wrong way.  ;)  It's a PITA of a job!  ::)  ;D

The issue is that the adjuster can be fitted either way around on both sides...

In an ideal world, you'll pop the caliper/disc off and clean it up as per Mark DTMs excellent guide before adjusting.

It can then be reassembled as per Tick Tocks pictures and adjusted accordingly :y

Those pictures should give you a decent idea of which way yours are assembled. If they haven't been adjusted recently, it can take a lot of winding before you realise you're going the wrong way!
I like to use a long flexible screwdriver to 'flick' the adjuster.

Also as I've found there's no 'feel' so you are convinced you're doing no good, but as Nick sas, you're flicking it, so can't feel it moving so well. On the other hand, you also could be just scraping the thread, or poking the backing plate, and ouldn't really know. Only after a while of poking you you get the knack for it.

Yes, a PITA job, definitely, because it's fiddly, rather than actually hard graft.
