Rather unusual! I suppose if you were so-minded to restore yourself a GSI 2000, or whatever, you may find yourself spending approaching £1800 very soon. Not sure I'd spend this, but its certainly an unusual find!

I'd assume this would have to be registered as a brand new vehicle, too (though an age-related plate could be then sourced, I suppose) no idea where you stand regarding VIN numbers etc...

I think that all Mk 3 road-version Cavaliers had sunroofs in the UK. Dredging up old memories. You are probably closer to the shell's intended use based on your comments regarding a racing car. This may have been a BTCC shell that never got built.

Registration would be an interesting without a VIN or a proof of age of the car. I guess a car could retain its original ID if the new shell could be stamped with the existing VIN and the original shell is destroyed. If not, a Q-plate would probably be applied:

"A ‘Q’ registration number is usually assigned to a vehicle by the DVLA when the vehicle's age or identity is unknown. The vehicle may be rebuilt from parts, some of which may not be new. This also applies to vehicles which are imported WITHOUT supporting evidence to identify the vehicles age."

You've got your own 'VIN' plate on yours as I recall? Making use of the gap on the scuttle where PFLs had theirs, before they moved it to the B-pillar? Quite like the idea, actually.


Would be very interesting as you say, if this was in fact destined to be a Touring car... it's in the right colour, too!

Be interesting to know if there's any difference in the floorpan visible for the independent rear suspension only used on GSis/Turbos/4x4s. And if it's visible from the photos.

It's not a VIN plate, it's a build plaque similar to the Lotus Carlton.
