Rear parking sensors
« on: 27 September 2016, 15:38:08 »

Mini Me can't reverse park a friggin tiny little Corsa  ::) :-[ :-X

Would a Omega kit work okay ?

By my reckoning, its only the sensor wires, a 12 volt permanent feed, a switched 12 volt supply from the reversing circuit and a ground to the chassis somewhere  :-\

If it will work, anybody got one for sale ?

Well, in answer to your Q - don't see why not. Though there must be a dozen aftermarket cheap n cheerful kits on certain auction websites these days, which would work perfectly fine, and are designed to retro-fit, rather than taking what is supposed to be an integrated (and theoretically plug n play) setup and splicing it into the loom. How handy you are with a soldering iron/electrics would alter how easy/difficult it is.

Option 2, and not actually answering your question, is to get the little bleeder to learn! Not to be cruel to the lad, I like him, but he needs to learn. Daft as it might sound, get him playing around on a larger car makes parking easier. I learned on a Polo, later in a Corsa, which I passed in. The day after passing I was convinced the Corsa was a huge oil-tanker of a beast, that was unbelievably challenging to manoeuvre. My first was was a TD Omega, one week later I was comfortable, learning the dimensions, and when it came to park my mate's Fiesta up as a favour, the thing felt like what it is, a teeny-weeny little supermini - dead easy.  :y

When I come to power all people will learn to drive in medium-large cars. I genuinely think owning a bigger car makes you aware of your presence on the road and improves your driving/parking too.  :)

No reason why it shouldn`t as they're a stand alone unit AFAIK, you could try ebay as I`ve not seen many for sale on here, I was after one myself when I had my MV6 but none came up for sale in over 12 months.

Why faff about with an Omega set when you can buy a complete universal kit for about a tenner? The hardest part of fitting it is neatly running the sensor and display wires back to the ECU. Then it need does just need an earth, and the switching wire soldered to the reverse light wire.

Stick the display upside down to the roof so you can see it in the mirror(and not just plonked on the dash) and you're done:

It is worth spending a couple of quid extra, and buying sensors that are coloured to match the car; the cheap black ones on my silver bumper could look better

Now what incident did that remind me of? It's not self-inflating on engine start, though, so not as much fun. :D

So you've never cable tied a horn behind a rear bumper and wired it to the trailer socket brake light pin?

You're giving me ideas... :D

But that'd only work for caravanists. :(

I have a set here, but minus the speaker. Sensors and mountings are painted white.

Can test for function using the traditional finger buzzing test :D

Al (HKT) did two of my cars, made a real good job of it with £10 aftermarket kits,a bit of measuring up and drill skills are needed plus a little bit of electrickery connecting. Also Al fixed the visual part of the unit which is a small screen to see how close you are getting to the target up on the high level brake light casing,so that you look at it via your rear view mirror as you reverse,Mercedes style.... brilliant! :y

My MV6 had after market rear parking sensors. They made an annoying noise but other than that were totally useless.
