Whats your Up Speed (ISP)
« on: 02 October 2016, 19:11:36 »

Im interested in knowing what other people are getting and with Who?, this is for my info, so try and keep it real, rather than posting up a mines bigger then yours type reply.  :y

Im currently on BT at Home (up to 17mb tariff, get about 10 Download on average) and get a real crappy 0.8Mbs up, on average. Thinking about going for Fibre, poss 38Mbs tariff, which has an advertised up to 10Mbs up, but I know a few folk who are getting around 1 to 3 Mbs up so not big improvement there.

I tend do a lot of Cloud stuff and File Uploads work wise, and have access to Mobile Data as well, can do around 8Mbs Up just on 3+G or around 20Mbs Up on 4G but it eats my data allowance.

My Zen line gives 62down, impossible to get a sensible up, as all you buggers are constantly hammering it ;D. I get 15 when testing.

BT Business line is 62down, 17up, but up it very bursty.

FTTC products make cloud work how you would expect - that and multiple video streams if you have people using Netflix etc are the big advantages over ADSL products.

I used to have Fibre, but even staff had to pay a small fee. So I dropped down to standard broadband, as it's totally free for me.

I've not noticed the difference as I don't kane the internet like I used to. Sky box doing movie downloads is its biggest test, does it all fine.

Get 11mbs down, 0.67 up. Standard Sky BB.

I get 7.5 down and a poxy 0.5 up. That's with sky.

At busy times, it can drop to 4 down and the square root of fick all up.

Phone and broadband (No Limitations) costing £10.33 plus line rental and before discounts. :y

Normally about 7mb down, few issues at the moment since I took on the combined service but better than the 3b it dropped down to. :-\

Okla not the best reference guide to use as TB has often mentioned BT it's whats I have always used for comparing my own speed checks.

Tried testing the speed once, BT, and after half an hour it still had not come up with a reading. We are right on the end of a cable for our area as we live in a cul-de-sac

What are the speeds for the service you are paying for, as that looks borderline that Openreach wouldn't support it?

I was with virgin FTTH which gave me over 200 down but only 10 up which limited my VPN Speen considerably.  I asked then to tweak the frequencies so that I got more up and less down but they refused and said I would need a business line at over 100 quid a month.  I left about 6 months ago and told them the reason why.  I could not have been the only one to complain as now they offer home broadband with up to 20mbps up.

That's the problem when they are chasing a headline speed.  We the heavier use of cloud storage and services, and more people either working form home or running a business from home, its far better to have a more balanced up/down, as you point out.
