How often do you drain your air tanks?
« on: 06 October 2016, 06:29:15 »

Just been told that I am not allowed to drain the tanks down on any truck we have at work :o

Goes against all my training.

On the locos and the compressors, after every days use.

The only issue is that it is loud!

I bet ;D the trucks are bad enough, and they're relatively small tanks at around 10 Bar...

Had it confirmed from Iveco that they should be drained daily as part of routine checks, so doubtless another arguement later >:(

If you've been told not to drain the tanks, don't do it!  It's not your truck.  ::)

Bloody hell I'm agreeing with tigger on this.
As a side, modern trucks are fitted with air-drier's, which remove most of the moisture, and if they are changed regularly( service item) then there should be no need to blow the tanks, let the fitters do it at service.
Basically do what your paid to do, drive it, report(defect) to your manager, that's it, if it goes bang, hay ho, you've done your bit by reporting the problem, weeks previous..

You'll be the only truck driver in the country to do it.
Leave them for the fitter to break the fittings!

Keep sticking your head over the top, in a large company, some manager will cut it off for the glory.

Especially if he finds out that you've been chatting to the Iveco dealer.  :-X

Very little water comes out the tanks on a truck when they are fitted with an air dryer, so as others have said. Dont bother your self about it.

Being a calm patient sort, I have loaned the superdupervisor in question a copy of the DSA Guide to driving large goods vehicles with the appropriate section marked for him...

Done as a gesture of goodwill of course... Not that he will interpret it that way :-X
