3.2 *FACTORY* LPG Omega?
« on: 09 October 2016, 22:39:52 »

I have been watching this with some interest...

Is there REALLY a factory LPG on the V6 Omega? (Ad says it was originally from Germany but is RHD)

Looks a v tidy install but I didn't think there was a factory LPG omega V6.

Anyone? :y

Yes, seen a couple now, a 3.0 MV6 and an Elite, and a 3.2 MV6, strangely enough they were all Esates. Quiet rare though

The visual clue is the so called Factory fits, followed the same theme as the Astra and Vetras, spare wheel tank, the LPG contents gauge was shared with the petrol one (would slowly  change when on Gas or Petrol) and had a little red LED switch over on the centre consul.

No... never an option on the Omega (or any Vauxhall actually ;)) and that certainly isn't... Vauxhall "Factory" conversions from that era are Koltec/Necam systems and use a distributor instead of injectors (and are also utter shit ::))

It does look like a very tidy conversion though :y

It was probably fitted by Millbrook, who no longer exist. It's OK when working but spares are very expensive, if available at all.

I like the price it's at though.  Maybe LPG'd Omegas are desirable.  :-\  ::)  ;D

Yes, thats why I mentioned 'So called Factory Fit', it was an option Vauxhall offered on certain New Cars of that era, as you say fitted by a third party, deal was, when you collected the car it was ready fitted with LPG and registered as Dual Fuel on the V5.

From memory early ones where Koltec then followed by Necam Systems, looking at the Pics now though, it doesn't look like one of them systems.  :-\

Could be wrong, but with the Millage (156K), Elite and LPG option reckon that could go around or above the 1K mark.

I'm genuinely interested and I might go have a look.

I emailed the seller this:

YOU:

Hi Colin, very interested in your omega, and just have a few queries

1) MOT history shows advisories for a rear wheel bearing at both the last tests. Is this job still outstanding?

2) MOT in March also says engine light was illuminated. Is this still the case?

3) Reference the LPG does it work faultlessly and drive the same as it does on petrol - and do you have an LPG safety certificate? (I note the vehicle is not on the UK LPGA register, which is required by most insurers, but can be easily added if an installation certificate exists).

4) Is it definitely a factory install? I only ask as when I did MOT checks, I see its not listed as such with DVLA.

5) Are there any other faults?

Thanks in advance for considering my questions, I am aware of the cars age and mileage no way being picky or expecting a showroom car - I do however think yours looks very tidy and I'm interested in owning it, I'm a long distance away so just checking as much as I can before bidding!

Cheers
James

The seller responded with this

Am back in the country tomorrow so will reply. It has MOT until April 2017 so  that may answer some of your questions. I was informed it was factory fit conversion in 2003. If there is no record it it on DVLA web how come they reduce the road tax. NEVER trust info you read on the web and in particular Government web sites. They would have trouble organising sex in a brothel

I did a bit of digging when I had my 3.0 with a Koltec kit allegedly factory fitted. Turns out the kit was basically lobbed on the back seat at the factory and the dealer farmed out the installation to a local firm, in my case it was someone in Heckmondwike as I had to take it back to them to service the system because no other firm would touch a Koltec system, it ran perfectly for 3 years after that though.

Edit: Mine looked nothing like that as the front end installation was near invisible !

Koltec and Necam are the same system  ;) They did a distributed system and an injection system. I suspect it is the latter... injectors aren't cheap if needed - £295+p&p and VAT per set of 4 (not sure they're available as 6), and that was a few years back :o :o
