2.6 cats worth getting?
« on: 31 October 2016, 09:12:19 »

Just that - worth getting 2.6 cats. Ignore the cost, for the purposes of this question they're free (they could well be, actually!) and fitting them on a 2.5.

I know they're meant to be 'inferior' to 2.5/3.0 ones, but I was more concerned about the differences in Lambdas / post / pre-cat 02 sensors etc... is it just a case of 'leaving a couple of sensors unplugged' or is there more to it?

Unless you have a 2.6 /3.2, leave them alone  ;)

The first thing I did with mine was fit a pair of 3ltr lambda converted cats to my car young J  ;)
Still got the old 3.2 ones here if I ever need to revert  ;)

They have no use. Even if you had a 2.6/3.2, you still want 2.5/3.0 cats on.

I've obviously missed (or more likely forgotten ::)) why the earlier cat setup is better. Please remind me why. :-\

Its to do with the extra Lambda/02 sensors, isn't it? And it cocks up emissions at MoT time, so the simpler setup the engine's happier. Something like that, anyway.  :D In truth I don't remember  :D ;D

Pre cats fail on the 2.6 / 3.2 which gives you the dreaded emissions light and the 0420 / 0430 codes  :(
Fit a pair of 2.5 / 3ltr cats with the lambda's fitted and you never get the emissions light bugging you because there is nothing to fail  ;)
My car has been through 2 MOT's while been tested on petrol with absolutely no problem  :y
Also the old cats are better built and a little larger so less restrictive   :y :y
