For the highest levels they search out and interview your schoolmates and family....... ouch  

Should the powers that be need a reference i'm more than happy to.....maybe not. Would'nt further your cause would it???

LOL -- I remember in a past job, every now and then we used to get a PV form to fill in, asking stoopid questions to make sure we were still "security worthy". Anyway -- in a silly moment I answered, "Have you any pending criminal actions outstanding?" ( or words to that effect) with "Don't know"  (Weeell ... you never know whats going to arrive on the doorstep).

The reaction was somewhat akin to asking a policeman at Heathrow if it was OK to take the machine gun on board the plane !!!!!

Mind you -- they were also miffed that I answered "Sex?" with "Yes, please"

Won't be doing that again !!!!!!!!

Who cares?, Really it makes precious little difference. Jeremy Vine's already turned R2's lunchtime slot into his own politics show, if droning was an olympic event he'd win us a gold. terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired. Trying not to rant but i'm sick to back teeth of it.

The dilema for Labour is if they get rid of Brown they should call an immediate General Election after selecting a new leader, as they can hardly continue, or survive to govern with a second unelected  Prime Minister and drastically falling majorities in the House. But if they call a General Election now they WILL loose, but if they soldier on until 2009/10 they will still loose, but all the Cabinet members can enjoy their salaries for another two years.

What would you do if one of those ministers? Don't forget to answer as a politican with all those "special qualities" ( ) that they possess!

As for avoiding Politics Amigo, I appreciate your feelings, but there is nothing you can do to avoid the affects of Politics in everything you do, even when asleep!  They are unavoidable for all levels of society.

I've always supported the idea of GB for PM.

I couldn't have been happier when he replaced TB.  I knew that it would make New Labour totally unelectable.

Cheer up - they're on their way out!

Now we can look forward to a few years of David Cameron self-destructing as he attempts to put the country back onto a secure financial footing.  And we can expect some of the muck that has been swept under the carpet for the past 10 years to start re-appearing.  

It will be great fun to watch for those of us of no particular party political leaning.

There's only one way forward for New Labour from this position .As Lizzie said their position would be untenable if they replaced GB without calling a general election.
I'm afraid GB has suffered a double blow being the incumbent PM when the economic stability of the country has crashed due to circumstances beyond his or the cabinets control, couple this with him being the most unelectable leader in modern times ( excluding Michael Foot ) due to his total lack of charisma or ability to connect with the populace. .These circumstances will force them to stay in power to 2010 which will allow them to try and seduce the public into re electing them again.Meanwhile DC's policies will be able to be examined and decried when they come back fighting after their summer break.
But be cautious , I have lived under Conservative rule and we all desperatly wanted change at the end of their tenure ,remember that old and proven saying "be carefull what you wish for as you might just get it....."
I do not believe that life would be any better under The Conservatives or indeed any other political party they would still have to balance the books and as all newly elected governments do ,they will force  unsavoury measures on you that can be blamed on the mess they inherited from the last government.
We are all going through changes that have never been experienced before ,the days of easily affordable fuel and energy costs are over and we all will have to adapt accordingly. Be under no illusion ,there is no way back to where we were even last year the price of oil and gas is out of any UK governments control and all they can do is tweak the final effect it has on us all.
Oh and although I live in, or rather escaped to, Ireland I am a UK citizen with business and family interests back home.

GB's days are numbered, there is no doubt about that, the only person who doesn't believe that is GB himself.

However getting him out could be the difficult issue, we have now seen a couple of MP's voice no confidence about him, what it needs is for some of the more senior members of the party to do the same and to do it in a public arena, that would be the nail in his coffin.

He was never elected by the puyblic and so should not have been allowed to take office, he has been a runaway train and he is now getting ready to hit the buffers.......

I don't believe the next government are going to change things, they want to be elected so they can implement their own vision of the future, but how different is that to our vision. They are so divorced of reality and day to day living that i genuinly don't believe they don't understand the hardship that joe public has to endure when they 'improve' policies.

GB may be a laughing stock as prime minister but I don't believe that is doing us too much harm. What has really harmed the country is his stewardship of the economy when he was chancellor. Whilst we'd love to see him with egg on his face, the damage is done, and a change of PM could make matters worse, IMHO.

What we need now is a change of government. The labour party are running on vapours with no idea how to take the country into the future. We need someone with some fresh ideas, and not afraid to reverse some of the lunacy that new labour has put in place.

TBH, whilst the conservatives are the only viable opposition, they are sounding worryingly like the idiots who are currently in office. They need to come up with some policies of their own, IMHO. However, even if they promise the same as before, they'd be a change. Some new bums on seats with 10 years of opposition fresh in their minds would do no harm at all IMHO.
