Modern technology has generally moved cars in a positive direction. :y But not always. :'(

Accessibility to components on many modern cars can be a nightmare. :-\

I disconnected the seat to move it back to give me room to access the battery. Unlike an Omega, where if you leave the ignition off while playing with SRS you don't get any faults appear, even with the ignition off it triggered the SRS fault by unplugging the seat. Forunately I have a gizmo to reset it, otherwise you'd be forking out again to get someone else to.

It shouldn't be this way. :'(

To change a battery.......ten minutes including a fag and a cup of coffee. :y

Lots of things should be easy ..... thermostat change on a V6 vs the 'stat change on the Astra I had ... all day instead of 10 mins. Heater matrix on an Omega vs matrix change on my Cavalier Coupe  .... same as 'stat change  ;)
But I also have the Smart Roadster to compare jobs with too. All 6 plugs on a V6 Omega, 30 mins vs all day to change a Roadster's 6 plugs the easy bit But you need to remove the rear first rear panel removal

New cars (last ten years) are rubbish.
Audi a2 , owner goes on holiday for a month and comes back to a flat battery. only the the front door will open. Battery in the the boot. No connection point under the bonnet i could see. Climb into the back, fold down the seats, empty the ample contents of the boot, lift up the carpet and jump leads thru the rear window. Might of missed an AA trick. what a ball ache.

Which is about 5 minutes longer than it takes to change the battery on the Bm...

You could try this as its just a new battery on it....

disconnect the battery and see if it resets

If that doesn't do it....

if you need to get into the boot urgent you need to drop the back seat and in the middle of the boot lid trim on the inside is a small grommet, pop that out and inside is a slot for a flat screwdriver, turn it anti clockwise and up pops your boot lid

Then

Technical Service Bulletin 2820
Subject: Tailgate / trunklid, lock - Does not open
Brand: Model: Model Year: VIN: Engine: Transmission: from | to from | to Opel, Vauxhall Insignia 2009 2011 91000362 B1134852 All All Opel, Vauxhall Meriva-B 2010 2011 A4000001 B4242704 All All
Option Complaint Tailgate or trunklid does not open. Cause Defect of the tailgate/trunklid release switch. Production
Remedy

In case of customer complaint that tailgate or trunklid does not open,
do not replace the latch assembly, striker, control module or wiring
harness. Do not attempt to re-align the latch assembly or striker.
If DTC(s) are not set, replace the tailgate/trunklid release switch.

For details see Technical Service Bulletin 2778 / 2779.

I guess it may have failed because of water getting into it (has its been raining a lot recently?) seems a common problem....

That's exactly how I did the first couple I went to. Later ones have a well disguised, and very flimsy, cable release near the headrests which doesn't help much.

Prius are even worse if the tiny 12volt battery is flat, as the engine isn't supposed to run when the car is stationary. So a 'jumpstart' requires leads connected for about half an hour, or driving it for a while with a booster.

Jump-starting an original A-class Mercedes always put the EML on for some reason. That was less of an issue when I bought a code reader, but it only resets with the ignition on, and the engine off.

What about cars that don't have key operated door locks as they have remote central locking? The one manual lock has probably never been used, and is often seized - particularly common on Merc bootlids where it's very dirty, and on Renaults due to poor quality materials.

Thanks for that, replaced the tailgate switch a couple of years ago (well Mark did).

Tried the reset method, the problem is it's a power operated tailgate.

Everything was working OK till the battery went flat, book says if battery is low, it disables the power operation of the tailgate.

Should reset after battery change, but it hasn't.

Problem solved, I hope, control module in boot was soaking wet.

Dried it out, sprayed all the contacts with electrical contact spray.

Everything appears tickety boo :y

Just got to find out where the water is coming in now.
