Low coolant level warning
« on: 03 February 2017, 19:29:43 »

Hello all, the car is done ;D however despite the coolant level being perfect and the level is now holding steady I am still getting a Low coolant warning on the dash. I will keep an eye on it but it appears to be fine although I have got a slight sporadic dip in the revs when idle.

Most likely to be the level sensor in the expansion / header tank is faulty. I would just replace it with a used one from a scrapper.

Remove the plug, short out the 2 pins with a piece of wire and see if the warning disappears  :y

Sometimes, the top off the float in the tank separates and the mechanism sinks causing a low level warning.

Cheers to you both, will try shorting it tomorrow and if the warning disappears will get a new float.

The float is not available on its own .... only as part of the header tank

'It' was the expansion tank (as a unit), not just the level sensor / float!

When a brand new one is about £40, is that really worth it?

True, but it depends on how soon a dealer can get one relative to a trip to the local breakers and getting one for a fiver. I don't think they fail that regularly; I owned Omegas for over 12 years and never had one play up, so I personally would take that chance. Budget and whether the cars a keeper would also come into it.
