I still consider the X5 to be one of the worst cars BMW have done and certainly one of the least reliable.

So that means you are on the Range Rover....

I'd have the Range Rover if faced with that choice

Thanks chaps , looking online about the x5 it there seems to be an awful lot of cheap ones around and for good reason spares/repairs and costly parts  ::) Will be looking at the Jag engined L322s rangie .

What about the Range Rover 3ltr Diesel auto  :-\

Its catastrophically slow and juicy. Quite noisy as well. Pay more for a 3.6 TDV8 or stick to petrol.

I'd agree wholeheartedly with this. Also, they are ONLY bought by those who can't afford to run the petrol version. And if you can't afford the petrol for a range rover, you sure as hell can't afford to maintain it properly. On that basis alone I'd avoid them, leave alone the slowness and noise.

Categorically DO NOT buy a TD6 Range Rover. The gearbox WILL fail. Possibly repeatedly. Look it up.  :y

With all the potential expensive problems lurking around some of these vehicles such as the X5, Range Rover etc... Why not stick with something you know inside and out? If / when a very good example Omega pops up buy it. Job done. Unless you actually need a 4x4?  :-\

Just evidence that they were still the same as the Series 1's from a build perspective then  :D ;D :y

Makes you wonder doesn't it  :-\ I'm beginning to doubt buying one at all at the moment considering the poor feedback but then this is an omega owners perspective mainly  ;D I'll be keeping the Omega as ive spent a fortune on it  ::) and wont ever get the money back .. while it keeps passing the mot i dont see the point  :P

Maybe time to browse the V8 car section ..I do like the Ls400 and also the Mercedes-Benz CL 5.0.

I have had four 4x4 vehicles since the mid eighties 1st being an old Landcruiser apart from services there were no other repairs of any sort traded that in in 1987 for a LWB Nissan Patrol, the 4x4 specialist I bought it from in Norwich asked what my main priorities were which were towing capacity & reliability I was also looking at a Range Rover he had which he said to rule out re reliability! Kept the Nissan almost 12 years only repair was a fuel pump . Next was a Subaru Forester terrific vehicle abused completely ,towed way beyond its limits only repair were wheel bearings , swopped that for the Terracan which again has proved very reliable had it 5 years had a new battery & alternator in the last month. Range Rovers are without doubt the best looking 4x4 without doubt but that's about all in their favour, as for the BMW just a posers car in my opinion. As for a V8 Merc you will enjoy it 😉.
