These Supermarket Real Ale 5L Mini Kegs
« on: 13 February 2017, 20:03:23 »

Haven't tried them, but been noticing these a lot lately in various Supermarkets, 5 Litre Kegs of Beer around the £15 mark, Anyone tried them?

Has a quick google on the Adnams Website, these are aperently the same beer from the Brewers Vat that go out to the Pubs in Cask form, so Live Beer rather than the Pasterised stuff in the Bottles and Cans.

Ive seen, Hobgoblin, Adnams Broadside, Old Specked Hen, Adnams Bitter, Fullers to name a few, all in the same Mini Keg format, guessing if it is a Live Beer then use by dates could be a bit hit and miss, cant be a bad thing if its the new craze, anyone?

There's only one way to find out. Report back when you sober up. :)

I buy the Hobgoblin, Bath Gem, & Speckled Hen on a fairly regular basis. IMHO the quality is excellent and it is a convenient way of drinking - especially when away in the tin tent .. in the summer I dunk the keg in a firebucket full of cold water and it remains at an excellent temperature....

I also have the advantage of then stating that "I only drink 1 can a night" ..........

:)  :)  :)

Might take a while, I'll have to try and remember when Im sober.  :D

Seriously though, although I do like a nice Pint of Real Ale here and there, I dont really drink much at home, hence why Im asking the question.  :-\

So how long does the stuff last once opened, kind of guessing it will go flat before it goes off?

It's 5 litres, not 5 gallons. Get it down your neck, woosie boy.

So 5 litres, that's 10 half litres, and a half litre is just a bit less than a pint. So lets say 9 pints. . . . . ish

3 nights in . . . . . . maximum. No problem.

I'm fairly sure I've seen it on draught, specifically in a pub called The Office in Swansea which is, surprise surprise, a rock/metal bar.
