Hi
I would really like to swap out my single exhaust for twin exhaust ie both sides of rear of car.
will this cause less pressure and less performance or make no difference, or even better the performance.
Would love to hear from anyone who has done this as an upgrade

You already have separate pipes all the way to the back box, and twin exit pipes both come out the rear of one silencer, regardless of design

Plus, back pressure is a bad thing in an exhaust(although inducing it is often the easiest way of keeping one quiet), and the stock system is already generously sized for the small engine it has to deal with.

Technically you'd be adding weight... 

And as Nick says, back pressure is not req, however consistent flow/speed of exhaust gases is for best performance.

Regardless, in a 2.6 omega you're still going to be looking out the front windscreen at the back of the 316d that's just battered you away from the lights

Does a heat shield have to be put in place above the new silencer ?

It sounds like you are meaning having a seperate exit pipe on the other side of the car.is that correct ?. rather than twin pipes as in 3.0/3.2 style.if so surely the petrol tank would be in the way /nowhere to put box or were you thinking of splitting the pipe after the box and across the back and back out again ? .? .would be a lot of work for no power gain

With Irmscher, the pipe runs between tank and bumper.

you will need to cut out the other side unless you get a irmscher twin exit bumper.

Given that there's never any petrol in it, you might as well remove it and fit a proper sized LPG tank

Remember that its classified (by who I do not know) as her car, and this time of year she keeps it well topped up with petrol for added weight, in order to stop it getting too lairy when the slippery stuff comes
